Woman Uncovers the Shocking True Identity of an Animal Trapped on the Highway

Date:

Karenlynn Stracher is a seasoned wildlife rehabilitator and rescuer. She has always been quick to act when an animal’s life is in jeopardy, no matter how challenging the situation may seem.

Furthermore, this remarkable woman has spent many years as a paramedic in New York City, where she has saved countless lives throughout her career. That’s why she never turns down an opportunity to do good.

One day, when she received an alert about a wild animal stranded in the middle of a nearby highway, Stracher wasted no time and rushed to the scene.

She Rushed Through Traffic To Save Him

Despite the heavy traffic in New York, Stracher managed to reach the site fairly quickly. On the opposite side of the road, she found the distressed little animal, anxiously observing the traffic on both sides and unable to move.

Upon closer inspection, she realized it was a stranded possum. She needed to act swiftly to ensure its safety, as cars were speeding by and very few drivers seemed aware of its presence.

In similar situations, she would typically call the police to halt traffic so she could perform a rescue, but this time, she was on her own as the authorities were unavailable.

“I prepared all my gear and took a moment to observe the traffic,” Stracher recounted to The Dodo. “When I found a sufficient gap to cross to the median, I seized the chance.”

As she reached her destination, Stracher cautiously approached the possum, holding a fleece blanket intended for the rescue.

Given the poor animal’s confusion and distress, Stracher knew she had only one chance to cover it with the blanket.

Considering her extensive experience, we had no doubt that Stracher would succeed. She swiftly enveloped the possum in the blanket and transported it safely to her car across the street.

Just like in her previous courageous rescues, this mission was also a complete success.

He Is Back Where He Belongs

Although Stracher was well aware that it was not the perfect environment for a possum, she had to bring him home for an assessment of any potential injuries.

The terrified animal was understandably uncooperative as she conducted her examination, but Stracher, an experienced wildlife rescuer, recognized this behavior as normal. Thus, she proceeded with the necessary tasks smoothly.

Once she confirmed that her furry little companion was unharmed, Stracher sought out a suitable location to release him.

“I’m pleased that there is a safe area nearby that offers him access to water and natural foods,” Stracher expressed.

The little possum was finally on his way back to the wild, exactly where he belongs. Although he may not have appreciated this “treatment” at the time, he undoubtedly sensed deep down that this kind woman had come to his aid.

We believe that out in the wilderness, he will always remember her selfless act.
