On a dark and misty winter night, Emily Orr was returning home from her mother’s house when she drove past a neighborhood dog park in Parkville, Missouri. Suddenly, she heard strange sounds, resembling cries for help, and sensed that something was amiss. Feeling compelled to investigate, she approached the locked dog park, concerned that someone might be in distress. To her shock, she spotted an abandoned puppy gazing at her with a pleading expression, desperately awaiting rescue.
Taking The Pup To Safety
Overwhelmed with sorrow, Orr was determined to help the puppy, later named Emilia. Though she wanted to investigate further, she couldn’t leave her young daughter alone in the car. Instead, she called the police and her mother for assistance. While they made their way, Orr drove around the dog park searching for Emilia’s family, but the pup was all alone, frantically running along the fence and following Orr’s car. When Orr rolled down her window, Emilia looked at her with the saddest eyes and cried for help, revealing her terror of being alone in the park.
Shortly after, the police and Orr’s mother arrived, rushing to Emilia’s aid. Upon seeing them, Emilia’s excitement was palpable as she began to wag her tail vigorously. “She came to us right away and was unbelievably excited! She was wagging her tail. She jumped right into my mom’s car, loving the treats my mom had brought and even tried to stick her whole head in the box,” Orr shared with The Dodo.
Upon closer inspection, it was clear that Emilia was in rough shape—malnourished and weak. Orr realized that if Emilia had spent much more time alone in the cold, she likely wouldn’t have survived. It became apparent that Emilia had been abandoned around sunset.
Emilia Waits For Her Forever Home
Orr’s mother decided to bring Emilia home. Initially, the pup barked all night long due to her anxiety, making it challenging for anyone to get some sleep. The following day, Orr’s mother purchased a kennel, providing Emilia with a sense of security, and the pup quickly adapted, showcasing great house manners by putting herself to bed every night.
As time went by, Emilia’s delightful personality began to shine through. She engaged in playful activities with her toys and even formed a bond with Orr’s mother’s cats.
The extraordinary nature of Emilia truly revealed itself during a significant moment when Orr’s mother experienced a ruptured appendix. As her mother lay on the ground in agony, Emilia quickly rushed to her side, refusing to leave her alone. “Prior to my mom’s surgery, while she [lay] on the floor in excruciating abdominal pain, Emilia laid by my mom’s side and gently rested her head on my mom’s stomach,” Orr recounted.
While Orr’s mom couldn’t provide Emilia with the forever home she deserved, she was determined to ensure the puppy’s happiness. She reached out to Friends of Parkville Shelter, who helped Emilia find an incredible foster family.
Although sweet Emilia is currently enjoying her time in her foster home, she eagerly awaits finding a permanent home. Here’s hoping her wish comes true soon because she truly deserves it!
