Typically, when you glance out your window to enjoy the sights of nature, you don’t anticipate anything unusual.
But when one woman did just that, she was quite surprised by what she saw.
Outside her window, something odd and furry caught her eye atop a nearby building.
Upon closer inspection, she realized that it was a small animal that needed assistance.
Help Is On The Way
The woman quickly reached out to her local wildlife organization to report the situation. Once they were made aware that an animal was in distress, they promptly headed out.
“[She] spotted a furry shape on the roof of a one-story garage next to her apartment,” stated the wildlife center in a Facebook post regarding the incident.
Upon arrival, they carefully accessed the building and cautiously approached the creature, aiming not to scare it away.
As they drew nearer, they identified the animal as a skunk.
The wildlife rescuers were quite concerned for the skunk, acknowledging that she had been stranded for a long time.
“It’s definitely an unusual case. She fell about half a story onto a flat-roofed garage at an apartment complex. The fall itself wasn’t serious, but the information we received indicated that the skunk had been in this situation for two weeks, and that’s quite a long time for any animal to be essentially trapped,” explained wildlife rescue manager Andrew Wight in a video shared on the Wildlife Centre’s YouTube channel.
Wight noted, however, that it seemed someone might have been feeding the skunk, as she appeared quite alert when they arrived.
Rescue Mission
Initially, Wight and his colleague hoped that the rescue operation would be quite simple.
They thought placing a kennel nearby would entice the skunk to enter. Unfortunately, the plan did not unfold as expected, as the skunk bypassed the kennel and darted toward the building’s edge.
Fortunately, the rescue team was able to capture her with a net and safely secure her in the kennel before she could get hurt.
They then transported the skunk in their vehicle directly to the rehabilitation center.
“I hope she’s just dehydrated, as everything else seemed normal. Her limbs were functioning properly, so we’ll get her to the rehab and veterinary team for a thorough check-up,” Wight mentioned.
Upon arrival, the medical staff verified Wight’s initial assessment, and after rehydration, the skunk was successfully returned to the wild, where she belonged.
Witnessing her joyfully venture into nature touched Wight’s heart, reminding him of his passion for his work and its profound significance!
