Being an animal rescuer comes with its challenges. Witnessing countless dogs struggling on the streets, often in dire conditions, it hits hard to understand that they have no means to seek our assistance.
Simply rescuing them and taking them to a shelter does not ensure their safety, and it can often break your heart.
Nonetheless, this story is different. We will share the tale of a gentle dog who was likely abandoned by his homeless owner near a busy freeway, left alone with no one to return for him.
A Perilous Situation

When Hope For Paws got a message about a dog living dangerously close to a busy freeway in California, they promptly dispatched a rescuer to help.
Sabine Bradley, who initiated the request for assistance and is the founder of Reptile and Amphibian Rescue Network, felt compelled to stay with the distressed dog until help arrived.
The rescuer approached cautiously from the roadside to prevent the dog from running into traffic if she became frightened.
She attempted to comfort the dog with gentle words and caresses to see if it had any positive effect, but sadly, the dog appeared indifferent.

It was evident that the poor dog was quite disheartened following her abandonment and was left to fend for herself.
Eventually, the rescuer made an attempt to gently put a leash around her neck to guide her into his car. Surprisingly, this approach worked, and the dog complied without any objections.
A Fresh Start for Brenda

Once in the vehicle, he drove gently, mindful not to frighten her, and they quickly arrived at an animal shelter in California.
Upon arrival, he promptly scanned her for a microchip, hoping to identify her owner, but the results were negative.
With that information, he decided to name her Brenda, honoring his childhood pet.
She received a soothing warm bath for her care, and she seemed to truly appreciate the comforting experience.
Later on, after completing her essential medical checks, Brenda comfortably laid on the floor and dozed off.

To enhance her chances of adoption, Hope For Paws arranged for L.A. Animal Rescue to foster her until a suitable forever home could be found.
Although it initially seemed daunting for her to find a new family, Brenda was fortunate as a lovely family took her in quite soon.
Despite the hardships she faced after being forsaken by her owner, having the opportunity to start anew and love again was truly heartwarming.
I have no doubt that Brenda’s new family is exceptional and will shower her with the affection and care she rightfully deserves.
