Kiki has always been the most affectionate little darling – she just needed some encouragement… and the right people to guide her!

When Kiki, a Pit Bull, was first adopted from the shelter, she faced several tough months. She was so timid and reserved that it made coexisting with her quite a challenge.

Having endured a difficult past, Kiki had completely lost trust in humans. Still, Stephanie and Nick were determined not to give up on her!

She Faced Challenges in Adjusting

Before she was adopted from Rocket Dog Rescue in California, Kiki was found as a stray. Her initial arrival at the shelter was marked by severe malnourishment and extreme shyness.

Despite spending nine months in a foster home, Kiki struggled to find her permanent home and was continuously passed over until one day, Stephanie and Nick discovered her on the rescue’s website.

This couple, hailing from the Bay Area in California, instantly fell in love with Kiki and made the decision to adopt her.

However, it soon became clear that having Kiki in their lives was no easy task…

The first few weeks proved to be quite challenging as Kiki displayed great anxiety in her new surroundings. She had frequent accidents and even nipped at her new owners due to her troubled past.

“At first, she could go from calm to frantic in seconds, often biting us, making walks cumbersome, and we constantly felt overwhelmed every morning,” says Stephanie in an Instagram post.

Stephanie and Nick devoted themselves to making Kiki’s transition as smooth as possible. After just a few months, they began to see improvements!

Kiki, The Lovable and Quirky Princess

It took Kiki precisely three months to finally feel at ease with her new family. The couple adopted the tried-and-true 3-3-3 technique, which significantly aided her adjustment.

Kiki began to enjoy walks and toys, and her enthusiasm for food was infectious! Most importantly, she became friendly, even with Stephanie and Nick’s guests.

“She’s turned into a cuddly companion for us when we want to relax on the couch, we can host friends without fear of her becoming aggressive, and we’re finally emerging as a true family,” Stephanie shared on Instagram.

Kiki began showcasing her endearing quirks, like giving the most amusing side-eye when annoyed or letting her long, relaxed tongue hang out whenever she desired to take a nap on the couch.

After those initial three months, Kiki blossomed into a loveable companion. Now, she’s an enthusiastic girl who loves to embark on new adventures.

“The initial months were quite a challenge, but Kiki has transformed into such a wonderful girl, and we’re eager to see what adventures await us,” wrote her family in an update post.

Kiki adores her humans deeply. With her mom working from home frequently, she ensures she remains close by. She eagerly awaits Nick’s return each day at the front door.

Kiki also has a remarkable ability to comfort her humans. When they’re feeling down, she intuitively understands their needs and offers her affection in the form of cuddles and kisses.

Today, Kiki embodies more than just a rescue dog with a challenging background. She’s a caregiver, a loyal friend, and a cherished companion!
