When she arrived at the shelter, Irie was virtually unrecognizable. Her entire body was matted with knots, obscuring her lovely face.
Irie was in urgent need of a haircut and a thorough bath, and the dedicated shelter staff took charge.

With her coat clean, Irie was transferred to Rhode Home Rescue, a nonprofit organization located in Rhode Island.
This rescue swiftly found a welcoming foster home for the sweet pup.
“Animal control did an outstanding job shaving her. She cooperated for about 45 minutes before becoming stressed, so the rest had to be completed in short intervals both at the shelter and once she came home,” recounted Hillary Gillinder, Irie’s foster, to The Dodo.
Now, Irie not only has to adjust to her new appearance but also to the abundance of love and care she is receiving.
“She is particularly scared of male dogs and seems fearful of men. We are unsure of her past, but our focus is on helping her flourish with love and patience,” Hillary remarked.
Fortunately, her wonderful foster has found ways to help this anxious 11-pound pup feel at ease. Methods like playing soothing music, taking car rides, and engaging with toys are just a few ways to help her embrace her new life.
“I’m so proud of the progress she’s made since arriving at my home. Initially, she avoided me and would bark at me from her crate. Now, she follows me around and loves to hop on the couch and roll in the soft blankets!” she shared.
Irie still requires a bit more time to fully adjust, but she is in the care of wonderful people who adore her and ensure that her beautiful coat is well maintained.
“It’s disheartening to imagine what she has endured. Her journey is likely to be more challenging than that of most dogs, yet she is eagerly searching for her forever home,” Hillary concluded.
