It was just an ordinary day for Stevens County Sheriff’s Deputy Wright as he patrolled a rural area in northwestern Washington when he noticed a peculiar sight: a dog sitting by the roadside, gazing at him with a worried expression, as if pleading for help. Recognizing that something was amiss, Wright hurried to her side, assuming she was lost and seeking her owner.
To his surprise, the dog refused to jump into his vehicle. Wright could not have anticipated how the mystery surrounding this dog would soon unfold.
The Dog Asks Wright To Follow Her
Believing the owner was nearby, Wright searched the forest but found no one. He returned to the dog, who remained anxiously waiting on the road. Attempting once more to guide her off the road, Wright was taken aback when she suddenly darted up a little-traveled, unmarked path. The sheriff’s office later reported, “[She] took off up a slightly travelled, unmarked roadway.” Following her, Wright was led to a small summer cabin in the woods.
As he began to investigate the area, he heard a call for help and turned to see an elderly man lying on the ground near the cabin. It was Gita’s eighty-four-year-old owner, injured and unable to move, who required regular medication due to pre-existing health issues.
Gita Saves Her Best Friend’s Life
Thanks to Gita, her owner received the crucial help he needed. The sheriff’s office noted, “He had laid there for hours and may have had serious consequences if he had not been found.” Gita’s heroic story resonated with many, showcasing the boundless loyalty of dogs to their owners. The sheriff’s office honored the brave dog for saving the elderly man’s life.
