When an emergency C-section was needed for one of the patients at the Cross Lanes Vet’s office, every staff member on duty scrubbed in, gathered supplies, and eagerly awaited the pups. As the puppies were delivered, they were carefully handed to the staff for a quick checkup and a bath.

After the last puppy was delivered, the surgeon closed up the mother and confirmed that the procedure was a success. With all the puppies in perfect health, the medical team focused on the mama to ensure her swift recovery.

The little family is now enjoying time together, with the mama ensuring her puppies have clean fur and full bellies. I am sure that when the time is right, every single one of these pups will find a loving family that will continue to shower them with love and respect.

Doggo Labor 101

If you have a pregnant mama pup about to give birth, here are some tips to create a safe and comfortable environment for her labor:

Quiet and private space: Find a calm area in your home where the mama dog feels safe and undisturbed. This eases her anxiety and allows for relaxation.

Keep it clean: Ensure the area is hygienic to prevent diseases and infections. Regularly change and wash bedding, and have clean towels or papers on standby.

You are the midwife: Be ready to assist if needed, but keep a safe distance if she’s managing well on her own.

Emergency contact: Always have your vet’s phone number handy in case of emergencies, and familiarize yourself with the birthing process to act quickly if something goes wrong.

Post-birth care: After the pups arrive, ensure the mama is comfortable and nursing them. Provide fresh water and nutritious food because she will need it. Consider calling the vet for a quick checkup to ensure everything is okay.

By following these tips, you can create a safe and comfortable environment for the puppies to enter the world happy and healthy, setting the stage for the best life ever!
