Food is often considered the best thing in the world. From sweet treats to savory dishes, there’s something to satisfy everyone’s palate, including my furry friends, who are always eager for a delicious meal or a simple snack. However, their enthusiasm can sometimes lead to overeating; even when their stomachs are full, they’ll munch away as long as food remains in their bowl. While this behavior may seem adorable, it can result in serious health problems.
Big And Round

Doug Bishop is a wonderful man leading a joyful life in Virginia with his wife and daughters. The Bishop family has a profound love for animals and an inspiring history of rescuing and caring for them. Since 2015, they have fostered nearly 35 dogs on their beautiful 10-acre rural property, where they have provided a safe home for six rescue dogs, a rescue mule, and three rescue horses. The latest addition to their family is a charming Beagle Foxhound mix named Rosco, who requires special care.

Rosco was found alone for days after his previous owners passed away. In addition to needing a new family, he also required weight loss, as he tipped the scales at 103 pounds.
Let’s Hit The Gym
Before Rosco can find his forever home and achieve better health, he must shed some weight. From the moment he arrived, Bishop and his family devised a plan to help him reach his target weight, which included gradually increasing daily walks. Bishop mentioned, “He spent the first few days and nights just sleeping and adjusting. Since then, he’s been much more active and greets us at the door, happily wobbling around the house,” in an interview. It’s important to recognize that allowing a pup to become overweight can lead to serious health risks, and unfortunately, Rosco is already facing a few challenges.
“We do know he has a heart murmur and elevated liver values that we hope will get better with weight loss,” he added.
The family’s main goal is to reduce Rosco’s weight to 65 pounds with a balanced, yet enjoyable, diet and exercise plan. They have already seen significant progress.
Keep Them Healthy And Fit
To keep our furry companions happy and active, it’s essential they maintain a healthy weight. Extra pounds can lead to numerous health issues, including joint problems and diminished mobility, ultimately shortening their lifespan. By ensuring they stay within a healthy weight range, we enhance their quality of life, allowing them to enjoy life to the fullest with the ability to run, play, and experience joy.
Thus, regular exercise, a balanced diet, and routine checkups are crucial to ensuring our beloved pets thrive. Bishop concluded, “If anything I post saves another dog’s life, then mission accomplished. The end goal is empty shelters, and we do our best to help that! At the end of the day, I enjoy making people laugh and that’s all I try to do. If I can be someone’s joy in a tough moment, great.”
