Deciding to get a dog is a choice that requires careful consideration. From the moment they become part of our lives, dogs become cherished members of our families, and we should commit to being there for them through thick and thin. It’s heartbreaking to realize that many dog owners abandon their senior pets when they need extra love and attention, leaving these loyal companions feeling betrayed and hurt.
Princess, a senior Poodle, truly understands this sense of abandonment after being discarded by the very humans she trusted the most.
Left And Betrayed

She was left behind in the parking lot of the Animal Western League of Alexandria, with all her belongings packed into shopping bags. Upon discovering her, the shelter staff were devastated to find a note from her owners requesting that Princess be euthanized and her belongings given away after her passing.
Feeling lost and confused, Princess longed for her previous family and the only home she ever knew. The shelter staff took excellent care of her, but a vet diagnosed her with advanced kidney disease, and she was estimated to be around 16 years old.
Since the shelter lacked the resources necessary for her medical treatment, Princess was transferred to Miri’s Haven Senior Dog Rescue in Virginia.
Receiving The Love And Care She Needed

The rescue team poured their hearts into helping Princess feel comfortable and loved. As she gradually opened up, they showered her with affection. Despite her age and illness, she required hospice care, but fortunately, she was not in pain. It took time for her to overcome the trauma of abandonment, but the staff’s dedication began to lift her spirits.
“We see her thrive more and more each day…,” said Georgia Dodson, the director and co-founder of Miri’s Haven Senior Dog Rescue.

Princess thrived in a caring foster home where she received the unconditional love she always deserved. As the staff watched her blossom, they began to believe that she might not need hospice care after all, and that a forever family was within reach.
Knowing that Princess is now cherished and well-cared for fills my heart with joy. I am confident that this sweet senior will find a loving family who will cherish her for the rest of her days.
