Virginia Rescuers Discover a Small Chip Box and Are Astonished by Its Contents

Date:

It is hard for true dog lovers to watch the heartbreaking situations that our furry friends endure daily. The levels of neglect, abuse, and abandonment are staggering, making it difficult to grasp the reality. Imagine how challenging it is for those who dedicate their lives to rescuing animals. Rescuers and shelter employees encounter immense heartbreak daily, yet they always draw upon their strength and motivation to persevere.

Recently, the staff members from SPCA of Petersburg & Colonial Heights heard tiny cries coming from an open chip box. Their hearts sank, but they resolved to do everything possible to ensure this story would have a happy ending.

Poor Little Ones

Upon hearing the whimpering from the chip box, the SPCA staff had an unsettling inkling of what they might discover. Their worst fears materialized when they opened the box to find seven vulnerable puppies, left out in the chilling cold by an unfeeling individual. This discovery not only broke their hearts but also ignited a deep sense of anger over the cruelty of the situation.

“These poor babies are about 2 weeks old, and their eyes are barely open, if at all. They had urine stains and feces stuck to their little bodies. THIS IS NOT THE ANSWER!!!!!!” Colonial Heights Animal Control expressed in their Facebook post.

Despite This heartbreak, they were relieved to find the puppies, as they likely wouldn’t have survived the “45-50 degree weather this morning.” They quickly brought them inside their heated facility, cleaned them up, and warmed them up in “a clean tote with a nice warm blanket,” providing them with essential care.

Since the puppies were alone without their mother, the staff faced challenges in feeding and caring for them, prompting the call for external help.

Finally Safe And Sound

In light of these circumstances, the SPCA reached out to Richmond Ruff House, a rescue organization in Richmond, Virginia. Despite being nearly at capacity, they were eager to offer assistance.

Upon their arrival, the puppies were welcomed with cozy beds and warm blankets. Most importantly, they were introduced to a foster dog named Libby, meant to nurse them in the absence of their mother.

“Libby is still nursing her puppies, so we are hoping they will take to her. So far, no luck, but Libby is certainly willing!” the rescue shared in their Facebook post.

This meant that the puppies would need to be bottle-fed, an arduous and costly task. However, moved by the plight of these pups, rescue staff and volunteers refused to give up on them.

They still needed donations to cover the expensive feeding formula. Fortunately, many generous individuals stepped forward to help fund the needs of these little pups, ensuring they had everything necessary to thrive. Thanks to countless compassionate souls, these puppies are now safe and sound, but a long path lies ahead before they find their forever homes. We remain hopeful they will ultimately secure their happily ever after.
