Upon hearing the cries that sounded like a puppy, the villagers hurried to assist the creature, believing it might be in distress. They were shocked to find a group of stray dogs chasing a small baby, who was fleeing for safety.
When they focused on the small creature making the barking noise, they realized it wasn’t a puppy at all. It turned out to be a muntjac deer that had wandered away from a nearby forest.
Contacting Wildlife Rescue
Concerned locals reached out to WFFT, a wildlife rescue organization, for assistance.
The rescue team promptly arrived and took the adorable baby deer to the wildlife hospital. The moment he arrived, he captured the hearts of the staff.
The veterinarians estimated that he was merely a few days old and hypothesized that he had strayed from his mother. As he encountered the stray dogs, he began barking out of fear.
Muntjac deer are recognized for their barking behavior when close to predators. The lovable baby, named Cha Lao, would not have survived much longer alone. He was simply too weak and small.
Administering Life-Saving Care
Once at the hospital, Cha Lao underwent a comprehensive medical assessment and was provided with specialized care crucial for his survival.
The staff swaddled him in a blanket, which made the little dear feel safe and secure. They fed him using a bottle, and after finishing his meal, Cha Lao would lick his mouth, showing his enjoyment of the warm milk.
With appropriate care, Cha Lao became noticeably more relaxed, much to the delight of the hospital staff who lavished him with attention. The cute little deer enjoyed walking around the hospital, exploring his new environment. Initially, his legs were shaky, indicating he needed time to build strength.
According to WFFT, this courageous baby deer is thriving under their care. They are thrilled by the progress he’s made and are confident he will soon fully recover.
They intend to release Cha Lao back into the wild once he has regained sufficient strength and is deemed ready, ensuring that the location chosen will minimize the risk from humans.
