All dogs deserve loving homes, yet for some, the search can stretch on for far too long.
Mia, a Dutch Shepherd, was brought to the RSPCA after being rescued from horrific living conditions when she was just nine days old.
The shelter had hoped to find her a forever home as she grew up, but now, after four long years, Mia remains at the shelter, still waiting.
Mia Deserves A Chance

Mia spent her first six months in a loving foster home with a young couple. Everything seemed perfect until her bond with the couple’s older dog deteriorated, leading to her return to the shelter.
Since that time, Mia has been patiently waiting for her forever home.
“Unfortunately, since Mia was just a small puppy when she joined us, she has remained in kennels for almost her entire life,” remarked Claire Hoffman, Mia’s caretaker at the RSPCA, in an interview with Dogs Today Magazine.
Mia has watched over 1,596 animals get adopted, and she has now spent more than 4 years in the kennel. In dog years, that’s over 32 years, which is incredibly heartbreaking.
From the time she was a puppy, Mia has been engaged in training with the staff and has learned a variety of skills. Yet, no one has taken the time to see how wonderful she truly is.

“Mia has faced a tough beginning to her life and, despite her early hardships, we’ve showered her with as much love as we can, and she has blossomed into a truly wonderful dog. However, being in kennels for such an extended period is not a suitable life for her, and we fear she may, unfortunately, be the RSPCA’s longest resident,” Claire added.
The shelter describes Mia as a classic Dutch Shepherd. She is clever, lively, and full of energy, while also having an affectionate nature.
All she requires is a person willing to give her a chance – someone who will devote time to her and show her the love she has been missing.
Regrettably, no inquiries have been made about sweet Mia for quite a while, leaving everyone at the shelter heartbroken.
Seeking A Home

While the RSPCA staff is working tirelessly to provide Mia with a happy life at the shelter, they remain desperate to help her find a caring forever home.
“What she truly needs now is an owner who can offer her the individual time and care she deserves, aiding her transition into a home environment,” Claire emphasized.
What kind of environment is best for Mia?
This spirited girl requires an adult-only home, ideally without children or other pets. It would be wonderful for her to have a garden where she could play and explore freely.

Mia may initially be a bit hesitant around new individuals but becomes incredibly affectionate once she feels secure with her ‘people.’
A potential adopter will need to visit the shelter multiple times to bond with Mia and determine if they’re a good match.
“She’s such a beautiful, friendly dog with an abundance of love to offer; it’s beyond me why she hasn’t attracted any interest. We haven’t had a single inquiry about her in well over a year,” Claire lamented.
If you think you could be the right fit for Mia, please get in touch with the RSPCA for more details about the adoption process.
