The homeowners were taken aback by the sight of these starving pups, who looked frail and close to collapse.
Despite their condition, the dogs kept wagging their tails, seeking assistance from anyone who would notice them. Concerned neighbors promptly reached out for help, and a compassionate rescuer responded.
They Won’t Suffer Anymore
Joey was quickly alerted about the predicament of these adorable starving dogs in another person’s yard, and he promptly located the site in California.
When he arrived, he could scarcely believe his eyes — the dogs appeared to have gone weeks without food. Time was of the essence.
The pitties had been left behind by their owner, and Joey was determined to rescue them from their grim circumstances.
He informed The Dodo: “It was getting seriously hot, and it wasn’t the safest area, so we needed to devise a plan quickly.”
Without missing a beat, he offered them food and affection before returning to the shelter in California for assistance. The following day, they returned and were met with warm greetings from the two dogs.
It was disheartening to contemplate how anyone could inflict such cruelty on these obviously sweet animals.
Joey, along with his partner Victoria, swiftly ushered them into their vehicle, where the dogs curiously explored their surroundings, their excitement spilling over.
Finally, Some Good News
Next, they were taken to a veterinary clinic for an essential check-up. At the clinic, they began taking an interest in the other dogs there, eager to make new friends.
The veterinarians provided exceptional care, administering the necessary treatment these dogs required.
Through teamwork, they successfully aided these lovable pitties in their recovery, helping them regain nearly all their lost weight. It was astonishing how quickly they transformed.
With their health restored, Joey decided it was best to secure them a foster home temporarily.
The dogs, named Oreo and Buttercup, soon found temporary homes after reaching out throughout the community.
Joey’s neighbor welcomed Oreo, while his friend Marissa stepped up to foster Buttercup, stating: “The moment Joey showed me that dog, I knew I had to step in.”
She provided Buttercup with excellent care. Although Buttercup regained much of her weight, she still needed to fill out, and Marissa ensured she followed a nutritious diet.
Buttercup Found A New Home
Her time there was filled with abundant love and care, and Buttercup grew fond of her new foster mom. To improve Buttercup’s chances of being adopted, Marissa decided to take an additional step.
Buttercup would likely benefit from a professional trainer to address her behavioral needs, so she reached out to Rosie for help.
Instances of dogs being returned to shelters due to lack of training occur frequently, making this a wise choice.
After working with her, Rosie came to the realization that she wanted to adopt Buttercup, which made Marissa incredibly happy.
She exclaimed: “I can hardly believe that this once-skeletal dog, teetering on the brink of death, is now soaking up car rides and home baths. She is truly living her best life now.“
As for Oreo, we do not have current information on his adoption, but it’s likely he will remain in a foster home until he finds the perfect match. It’s truly heartwarming to see how these two pit bulls have triumphed, and I’m thrilled they received the second chance they so richly deserved.
