Caring for wolf dogs is no simple task; it requires immense patience, understanding, and above all, knowledge. Kim from Arctic Fox Daily Wildlife Rescue in New York, excels in this endeavor!
Throughout the years that Kim has provided a loving home for these stunning canines, she has shown unwavering dedication and care, even in the face of numerous challenges. One of her biggest hurdles was caring for Jacob!
Rescued from a neglectful breeder, Jacob struggled to adjust to his new environment, but this was set to change in just a few months.
Jacob’s Troubled Past
Upon his rescue from an abusive environment in Tennessee, Jacob was a deeply traumatized wolf dog. He exhibited immense difficulty in social interaction, despite Kim’s efforts to provide treats and a secure home.
His fear and insecurity led him to destroy pillows and damage blinds throughout her home.
Things began to change when Kim made the decision to introduce him to her other rescue wolf dogs in an outdoor sanctuary.
He quickly integrated into the pack, delighting in the “beautiful chaos” that Kim fondly describes when referring to her canines.
“Jacob may not have a preference for my company, but that’s completely fine – I’m just thrilled with how fit he’s become, and considering his traumatic past, I feel grateful to provide this lovely boy a sanctuary to call home,” Kim expressed on Facebook.
Even though Jacob still kept his distance from Kim, he developed a special connection with her daughter, Ella. It seemed that Ella was the one person who could capture his trust and affection!
“I handle all the difficult tasks of caring for them and making sure they’re healthy. Meanwhile, she gets to receive all of their love,” Kim shared with The Dodo.
Jacob became exceptionally gentle when taking treats from Ella and thoroughly enjoyed his time playing in the spacious yard!
A Whole New Dog Post-Reunion
Though Jacob’s journey was still ongoing, Kim understood that he had a long way to go. Then, one day, she received a heartwarming call from her friend Molly, who works at Walking Wild Rescue in Ohio. This was the moment she had anticipated!
Molly had news about Jacob’s sibling, Vardan, and asked Kim if she would be willing to take him in, to which Kim eagerly agreed.
Kim was thrilled by the prospect of reuniting the two long-lost brothers, believing that this reunion would assist in Jacob’s social development. And indeed, she was correct!
Upon Vardan’s introduction into a secluded area of her wolf-dog yard, Kim witnessed a touching moment through her security camera. Jacob cautiously approached, sniffed his brother, and gently touched him with a paw.
He recognized his sibling! After all that time, they were finally together once more!
This was a momentous occasion for everyone, as Jacob became a transformed animal from that day onward.
Just a few weeks later, he began to emerge from his shell.
“Weeks after Vardan’s arrival, Jacob finally took food from me through the fence for the first time. Vardan is helping Jacob grow even more,” Kim shared.
The reunion of the brothers amazed Kim and her family. They cherished witnessing how they interacted and relished each other’s company. Most importantly, Jacob’s metamorphosis was a beautiful experience to observe!
“Considering the trauma both boys endured early in life, being able to see them confidently beside each other, growing both physically and mentally into the robust, handsome wolfdogs they were destined to be… together… it’s incredible,” Kim expressed in a Facebook post.
Kim is overjoyed by how the two brothers are thriving together. She remains committed to providing a loving home for Jacob and Vardan, and these two big boys are guaranteed to have countless exciting adventures ahead!
