Every year, countless Golden Retrievers converge in their namesake city, Golden, Colorado, for an unforgettable gathering.
This event has evolved into a cherished tradition, drawing thousands of dogs and their passionate owners from across the country, united in their love for these friendly companions and their vibrant energy.
This year, the weather wasn’t quite ‘golden,’ but that didn’t deter the dogs and their owners from enjoying a day filled with joy and excitement.
Celebration of Golden Retriever Day in Colorado

The “Goldens in Golden” is an annual observance of National Golden Retriever Day, which takes place on February 3 each year.
This special day unites Golden Retriever lovers in downtown Golden, Colorado, the historic mining town nestled along Clear Creek.
This year’s gathering was accompanied by snowy conditions, dubbing it a rather “soggy doggy” celebration!
Nonetheless, the chilly temperatures and snowfall didn’t dampen the spirits of the thousands of dogs and their human companions. Everyone was reveling in the festivities and wouldn’t have missed it for the world!

“It’s a testament to how much people love this event, as they are willing to brave the elements to come and celebrate with us,” remarked Megan Pinson from Visit Golden, in an interview with local news outlet News 9.
This event has gained popularity over the years, despite never having faced such severe weather conditions before.

One attendee, Katie Ford, who made the trip from Iowa with her dog Rilo, shared with News 9, “This is the best day! I don’t mind the weather at all; it’s just fantastic. My heart is bursting with joy. They are all adorable—each and every one!”
Some dogs experienced snow for the first time, which was incredibly special. “If you saw the smiles on their faces, they were larger than ours,” said Charlie Alfrey, who traveled from Florida with his dog Boss.
Fluff, Fun, And Happiness

Despite the harsh weather, the day was filled with exuberance, fluff, joy, and delightful treats.
Megan Pinson from Visit Golden noted that the inclement weather did not deter attendees—both humans and dogs—from participating.
“Golden retrievers are a tough breed, and so are Coloradans,” she remarked. “Everyone seems to be embracing the experience.”
Nothing could dampen the spirit of this joyous occasion, and cancellation was never a consideration.

The dogs were treated to complimentary “pup cup” treats, with ample opportunities for cute photos to be taken.
Event-goers could also buy merchandise and interact with several Golden Retriever-focused organizations.
It turned into a rainy and memorable day; the inaugural snowy edition of “Goldens in Golden” that will undoubtedly be remembered.
“Thank you for organizing this event. It’s always enchanting. Last year we toasted in the sun, and this year we’re soaked! Who knows what next year will bring? Haha! You’re uniting people and their dogs from all over the globe! We met folks from Taiwan and Florida today; how amazing is that?” one participant commented on Instagram.
