A compassionate individual spotted the tragic incident while leaving the Dollar General. He saw Hammie, the sweet dog, desperately chasing after the car that abandoned him. It broke his heart.
He rushed to save the canine. Although Hammie was hesitant to accompany him, the man successfully persuaded him and took him home.
Hammie appeared to have been cared for previously.
He and his partner took Hammie to the vet for an examination. Unfortunately, he did not have a microchip. They shared his photo and story on social media, but no one came forward to claim him.
Hammie Starts A New Life In His Forever Home
During his first few days, Hammie mostly slept.
Since no one came forward for the charming dog, the couple chose to adopt him and shower him with the love he truly deserved.
The anxious pup was initially fearful that his new owners would abandon him as his previous ones did.
“He would panic if we stepped away at all,” Hammie’s mom shared with GeoBeats Animals.
Hammie continues to show signs of nervousness. Certain people and images make him bark. He finds comfort in holding onto his pillows. His family ensures he avoids situations that trigger his anxiety.
His canine sisters play a significant role in helping him relax and regain his self-assurance. They engage him in playful activities and remind him of how to truly enjoy being a dog.
Hammie is adored by his family, and they feel fortunate to have him in their lives.
“He is great; I can’t express how loving he is. He adores our kids and gets along well with the other dogs,” expressed Hammie’s mom.
Love Changed Hammie’s Life
The love Hammie experienced in his new home transformed him into a completely different dog. His family adores his vibrant personality and playful nature.
“He loves to grab your shoe and dash away, prompting you to chase him all around the house. He’s an entirely different dog now. I could say ‘person,’ but he is just an extraordinary dog now,” shared Hammie’s mom.
The delightful pup relishes being close to his family and follows them everywhere. If they are doing chores, he is right there helping out.
Hammie enjoys a blissful life with his forever family in Indianapolis, Indiana. He has endless love to give and is a major cuddle bug. He loves to snuggle with his folks, especially his dad.
“He adores lying next to me. I find it hard to move or sit anywhere without him jumping right on my lap,” said Hammie’s dad.
