This Exceptional Pit Bull Represents the Breeder’s Masterpiece, But Not Everything Meets Expectations

Date:

While the shelter provides a wonderful environment filled with caring staff dedicated to making their stay enjoyable, the ultimate dream of every shelter animal is to find a loving forever home.

Despite the joy they find in friendship with their furry companions and the incredible humans around them, these animals yearn for the day they will meet a kind-hearted person who will adopt them and turn their hopes into reality.

One particular story stands out—meet Nora, a beautiful pup with a tale that’s quite unique.

Looks Aren’t Everything

Nora made her way to the Border Tails Rescue in Northbrook, Illinois. From the moment she stepped through the doors, this remarkable girl captured everyone’s attention.

With her stunning merle coat—a unique genetic pattern—Nora draws in admirers, making them take a second look and stop in their tracks!

However, not everything is as perfect as it appears.

Despite her breathtaking appearance, her unique coat has come at a cost: it has affected her sight.

Being a double merle means that she inherited two copies of the merle gene, which has led to some complications in her genetic makeup.

In most cases, having one merle gene is safe. However, when a dog has two, typically because both parents are merles, it heightens the risk they will be born with blindness or deafness.

“Many double Merle pups are often the unfortunate outcome of backyard breeding, where irresponsible owners prioritize profit over the health of their dogs and produce puppies based on desired traits,” says pet rescue advocate Rocky Kanaka.

For Nora, she was born blind. Yet, with her wonderful spirit, Nora has not let this challenge dampen her enthusiasm for life!

✨ Meet Nora! ✨ At just one year old, this wonderful pitbull is eager to demonstrate that special needs dogs can achieve anything! Though blind, she can still perceive large shapes and figures. Her blindness stems from being a double merle, a condition that arises when two merle dogs are bred, often resulting in blindness, deafness, or both. Yet, Nora refuses to let her blindness define her, showcasing her remarkable trust and love. She’s already familiar with her foster home and is gaining confidence during walks. Not once has she had an accident in her foster home and always goes potty outside. Nora is well-behaved in her crate and is not a barker. Recently, she took a five-hour road trip with her foster mom and was fantastic in the car! Her resilience is truly inspiring. Although Nora arrived at Border Tails in rough shape and still needs to gain some weight, she’s protective of her meals and needs a family that understands her boundaries during mealtime. Thankfully, with time, she’s learning to relax and is already looking healthier and stronger. Nora would thrive in a home with or without other dogs, as she’s very submissive and has bonded well with every dog she’s met. She charmed both children and adults alike at a recent event, forging connections with everyone present. She’s even been around horses without showing fear or barking. Nora is a gentle, cheerful, and easy-going companion who would bring joy to any household. Her unique characteristics don’t hinder her at all; in her eyes, she’s just like any other dog. Nora seeks a family that will shower her with love and continue to show her how beautiful life can be. She’s an absolute delight! If you’re looking for a mid/low energy, joyful pitbull, you’re going to fall head over heels for her. Yes, she’s truly house-trained, crate-trained, dog-friendly, travels well, and is quiet. Living Life To The Fullest

What’s truly remarkable is that even with her difficult past, she remains an extraordinary pup.

The staff at the Illinois shelter describes this beautiful girl in one word: lovable! Not only does she possess stunning beauty, but she also has a sweet and gentle disposition that ensures her blindness doesn’t hinder her pursuit of happiness.

Nevertheless, she hasn’t completely escaped her past, as she faces some challenges regarding her confidence and behavior during mealtime.

Fortunately, Nora has been taken in by loving foster parents who are aiding her in overcoming these minor hurdles. However, what she truly needs is a forever home filled with kindness, love, and happiness.

If you’re open to welcoming a furry friend who will bring excitement and joy to your life, please check out Border Tails Rescue for more information.
