This Adorable Pup Was Surrendered to a Florida Shelter Because His Owner Found Him ‘Boring’

Date:

The story of Honey is truly heartbreaking.

Throughout her life, she faced the loss of her home not just once, but twice. All she longed for was a warm, inviting place she could call her own, yet fate had different intentions.

This lovely Husky was adopted from the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center during an Adoption Event in Tampa, Florida. The moment she stepped into her new home, her joy was palpable.

However, a tragedy soon struck, leaving Honey abandoned yet again.

Abandoned For The Second Time

After spending five years with her first family, Honey was taken to a shelter due to a family member’s allergies. This brave pup remained hopeful, waiting for another human family to come along that would cherish her.

When that moment finally arrived, she was heartbroken once more. This time, she was deemed “boring.”

“The adopter noted that she hardly ate in their care, displayed no interest in treats, and showed little enthusiasm for toys or playtime. Honey is very quiet and calm, and spends most of her time sleeping,” the volunteers shared on the Rescue Me Tampa page.

Eventually, she was returned to a shelter, where she waited for what seemed like an uncertain future. Fortunately, her time there was brief. Thanks to Julie Bassett, a rescuer from Husky Life Rescue in Polk County, Florida, she was moved to a temporary foster home where she could finally unwind and recuperate.

At a first glance, Honey, believed to be around ten years old, seemed to be suffering from depression. Despite her sweet demeanor and loving nature, she appeared lethargic – but there was a reason behind it!

A Shocking Revelation

To everyone’s surprise, Honey wasn’t lacking in personality – she was actually gravely ill! Even more astonishing, she wasn’t ten years old, but rather fifteen!

“Honey was taken to the veterinarian today. We discovered that she is actually around 15 years old. Her liver and pancreas levels were significantly elevated. She also has a UTI and a respiratory infection. It’s no wonder she was perceived as ‘boring.’ It’s tough to be upbeat when you’re feeling this poorly,” Husky Life Rescue shared on Facebook.

Julie was heartbroken by the revelation but was determined to ensure that Honey received the care she needed. Honey was admitted to North Polk Animal Hospital, where her treatment commenced.

Although her condition was dire upon arrival, it took just two days for Honey to start showing signs of improvement.

Thanks to medication and pancreatitis treatment, the veterinary team was able to successfully help Honey. She’s gradually regaining her vitality, showing signs of her former self.

The love she receives is returned in full; Honey is a true sweetheart, thrilled by belly rubs and cuddles from the staff.

While she is on the road to recovery, Honey will need time before she is ready to find her forever home. Right now, she’s simply enjoying the comfort of safety!
