Being an animal rescuer is one of the most rewarding experiences a person can have. Witnessing an animal transform from being scared and alone to finding a loving home and a brighter future can light up even the darkest day.
One remarkable rescuer cherished her work so much that she developed the habit of scanning the sides of the roads while driving, always on the lookout for any stray animals in need of her assistance.
Numerous times, she would catch a glimpse of something that appeared to be an animal, prompting her to exit the highway, turn around, and return to investigate, only to discover it was just a box or a bag.
Despite these false alarms, the rescuer relentlessly remained vigilant for strays.
Pup In The Ravine
One fateful day, while navigating a bustling highway, the rescuer noticed something brown nestled in a ravine between the two lanes.
However, this time it wasn’t just a box—it was a frightened dog trembling in the cold, desperately seeking shelter to warm up.
Without hesitation, she scooped up the pup and placed him in her car. The presence of a collar suggested he was likely abandoned, but that was irrelevant now—the most important thing was that he was now safe and cozy.
After a lengthy nine-hour drive, the rescuer and the pup finally arrived at a veterinary clinic.
The young canine underwent a comprehensive checkup where the vets discovered that he had injured his hind leg. They also found that he had ingested some bones that had become lodged in his rectum—an issue that was affecting his appetite.
The pup, now affectionately named Pea, underwent an ultrasound, revealing a pelvic fracture. Fortunately, it did not require surgical intervention, but it did necessitate restricting Pea’s movements to ensure proper healing.
Sadly, the most pressing issue was food. Pea refused to eat anything, experienced occasional vomiting, and was unable to relieve himself.
The doctors concluded that the cause was pain, stress, and inflammation in his stomach. As it was crucial for Pea to be under constant observation, he was required to stay at the hospital.
Long Way Ahead
Following additional tests, the vets revealed that Pea had a rupture in his genitourinary system and required immediate surgery.
Unfortunately, it turned out there were two ruptures—one in the urethra and another in the ureter. Pea underwent a urethroplasty, but after a couple of days, follow-up ultrasounds indicated complications regarding his urinalysis.
Pea was now suffering from inflammation in the renal pelvis and ureter, rendering him unable to urinate.
The pup tried hard to maintain his strength, but he still refused to eat. After 16 days at the clinic, Pea finally began to eat on his own; however, he remained unable to urinate, and so the vets had no choice but to place him on a catheter.
Due to the expansion in his renal pelvis and ureter, the veterinary team had to conduct continuous ultrasounds to monitor his condition.
In The Clear
After twenty days, things began to improve significantly. Pea’s life was no longer in jeopardy, allowing everyone to finally breathe a sigh of relief.
A few days later, Pea underwent another ultrasound, confirming that he had made a complete recovery!
He was finally placed with a foster family who showered him with love and warmth.
Now boasting a hearty appetite, he devours every meal placed in front of him.
I am confident that in no time, Pea will find his place in a forever family overflowing with love who will ensure nothing like this ever happens to this sweet angel again.
He is one of the bravest pups I have ever met and he truly deserves all the wonderful things that life has to offer—I sincerely hope he receives them!
