Brittany Simpson and her family endured the unimaginable when their beloved dog, Ruger, went missing from their yard. They tirelessly searched for him, fueled by the hope that, since he was microchipped, he would one day be found.
Unfortunately, seven long years went by without any news, leading them to believe Ruger had been stolen, and they lost all hope of seeing him again. However, fate had different plans, and Ruger would eventually find his way home.
Ruger Reappears
One day, Rebecca and her daughters found a dog wandering in their yard in Amarillo, Texas. The dog was in poor shape, suffering from a skin infection. Although skittish and distrustful, Rebecca and her family managed to coax him inside, where they fed and bathed him. Noticing the pup still trembled after the bath, Rebecca knew he needed immediate veterinary care, suspecting a fever.
A few hours later, she posted a photo of the dog on Amarillo Pet Lost And Found, hoping someone would recognize him. Meanwhile, that same June day felt ordinary for Brittany Simpson as she casually scrolled through Facebook, only to be stunned when a familiar face popped up on her screen. “I immediately saw him and my heart dropped! I was like, ‘That looks so much like my dog,’” she later recalled to The Dodo.
The dog in the photo looked a bit older, but Simpson immediately recognized his distinctive markings. Overwhelmed with emotion, she commented on Rebecca’s post, expressing her belief that the pup was her long-lost dog. She even shared an older photo of Ruger as evidence.
Convinced it was Ruger, Rebecca took the dog to the vet for a check-up and scanned him for a microchip. When the microchip agency contacted Simpson, she immediately rushed to the veterinary office to reunite with her cherished pet. It felt surreal; she never believed she would see Ruger again.
Reunited With His Family
Upon arriving at the vet’s office, Simpson approached Ruger, gently stroking him. Initially, he kept his head down, not recognizing her. It was evident that he had suffered during his time away, showing signs of neglect with a double ear infection and a bacterial infection throughout his body.
Taking Ruger home, the family welcomed him back with open arms, showering him with love. Simpson’s children had never forgotten their sweet pup, and they were overjoyed to have him back in their lives.
“It feels like we’re living a dream. We just sit and cuddle him and watch him sleep,” Simpson expressed. Determined to make up for the lost years, Ruger’s family is intent on showering him with all the love he missed during their time apart.
Shortly after arriving home, Ruger began healing and adjusting to life with his loving family. He gradually opened up to them, soaking in all the affection they had to offer. Finally, Ruger is back where he truly belongs.
