Texas Woman Investigates Furry Object Found in Gutter

Date:

Animals, despite their resilience, often find themselves in need of human assistance. Living in tough conditions and encountering perilous situations is a frequent occurrence. While they sometimes rely on each other, there are times when only their two-legged companions can come to the rescue.

Fortunately, there are countless compassionate humans ready to do anything to ensure our furry friends receive the lives they rightfully deserve.

Rescue Mission

While taking out the trash, Austin resident Cassie Jo heard a peculiar noise. Upon investigation, she discovered it was the sound of a puppy crying. To her surprise, she found a small Jack Russel puppy tangled in chicken wire and trapped in a storm drain.

Without delay, Jo reached out to her apartment maintenance team to assist in freeing the pup. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, they were unsuccessful. When they contacted their local citizen hotline, they were disheartened to learn that help could take up to 24 or even 48 hours. Realizing the urgency of the situation, they contacted the Austin Fire Department.

Help Is On The Way

The Austin Fire Department promptly gathered their equipment and rushed to the scene. “The puppy, now affectionately named Poinsettia, kept slipping further into the drain until one firefighter bravely climbed down to rescue her,” reported Austin Pets Alive on Facebook.

Post-rescue, Poinsettia was taken to the Austin Animal Center and subsequently transferred to Austin Pets Alive (APA!) for a thorough medical evaluation. “Poinsettia was safe, but her challenges were far from over. After reaching Austin Animal Center, she began experiencing seizures. Poinsettia is now fighting for her life under the care of our medical team – and we are fighting alongside her. But we can only succeed with your support!” they stated.

The APA! has prescribed medication to manage her seizures and antibiotics for her infections. While they were worried about a potential leg injury, the medical team ultimately found no signs of pain or limping.

With Poinsettia now safe and on the path to recovery, her initial care costs are estimated at $500. The Austin shelter took this occasion to highlight the crucial nature of donations, emphasizing that “with December already halfway through, your support is critically needed to assist pets like Poinsettia in their struggles. Remember, your contribution is MATCHED up to $100,000 at this moment! Will you assist pets like her today – and see your donation generously doubled?”
