Animals, though capable of fending for themselves, sometimes find themselves in need of assistance. Surviving on the unforgiving streets often leads them into precarious situations. While they may help each other, there are times when only humans can lend a hand. Fortunately, many compassionate individuals are dedicated to ensuring that our furry friends receive the lives they genuinely deserve.
Rescue Mission

While taking out the trash in Austin, Texas, Cassie Jo heard an unusual sound. Upon investigation, she discovered a small Jack Russell puppy tangled in chicken wire and trapped in a storm drain. Without hesitation, she called her apartment maintenance team for help, but they couldn’t manage to free the pup.
After learning it could take a local hotline up to 48 hours to respond, she wisely reached out to the Austin Fire Department instead. They quickly arrived with their gear.
Help Is On The Way
“The puppy, now named Poinsettia, was slipping deeper into the drain until a brave firefighter climbed down to rescue her,” shared Austin Pets Alive on Facebook.

Once safe, Poinsettia was taken to the Austin Animal Center and subsequently transferred to Austin Pets Alive (APA!) for an essential medical evaluation. However, “Though Poinsettia was out of immediate danger, she soon began experiencing seizures. Now, under the watch of our medical team at Austin Animal Center, she is now fighting for her life—and we’re fighting alongside her. But we can only succeed with your support!” the organization stated.
The APA! prescribed medications to manage her seizures and antibiotics to treat her infections. Despite initial concerns regarding a potential leg injury, examinations revealed no signs of pain or lameness. With her path to recovery underway, the estimated cost for Poinsettia’s initial care stood at $500, prompting the Austin shelter to highlight the crucial role of donations.

“As December progresses, your support is crucial to aid pets like Poinsettia in facing their challenges. Don’t forget, your contribution is MATCHED up to $100,000 right now! Will you lend a hand to pets in need today and have your donation doubled?”
