Rescuing a stray dog is a truly noble act—transforming that dog’s entire life. Through your efforts, that dog gains the opportunity to live in happiness and security, free from concerns about food or shelter.
Although it may not seem significant to us, this gesture means everything to a dog, which is what truly matters.
When Rachel Hague volunteered her time, she aided many dogs, but everything changed upon encountering one pup who urgently needed her assistance. It was an unexpected meeting.
A Concerned Dog Who Needed Help

While attempting to help another dog, Rachel was approached by the distressed pup, now known as Ellie. Rachel recounted her experience to GeoBeats Animals: “I was on a different case helping with a dog that had been injured and trying to help trap him… and Ellie came running up to my truck.”
Ellie clearly wasn’t shy about seeking help and appeared very friendly. Despite her rough condition—she was dirty, swarming with fleas, and somewhat malnourished—Rachel took her to a clinic in Texas.
During the car ride, Ellie quickly fell asleep, indicating that she felt safe under Rachel’s care.
She Became A Mom

Upon arrival at the clinic, veterinarians made an interesting discovery: Ellie was pregnant and about to give birth, which explained her desperation for assistance. Fortunately, they confirmed that both she and her puppies were in good health.
Rachel shared: “My soul puppy had just passed away right before that at 19 years old. So, I had zero dogs at the time. I went from zero dogs to very quickly having Ellie and all of her babies.”

The dog family left the clinic and went to Rachel’s Texas home, where Ellie proved to be an excellent mother. She was always attentive to her puppies, showing remarkable trust in Rachel as she let her care for them while keeping a watchful eye.
They Are All Living Their Best Lives

Rachel thought about Ellie’s past—could she have been abandoned due to her pregnancy, or did her previous owner simply lack the means to care for her? Regardless, Rachel was grateful to provide a loving home. As the puppies grew, it was time for their vaccinations.
Most of the puppies were placed on an adoption list and quickly found forever homes, much to Rachel’s joy.

As for Ellie, Rachel expressed her feelings:
“Once we had Ellie around the house, I just knew that she was mine.”
Despite all the puppies finding homes, one remained—Bear. Rachel decided to keep her since Bear was especially fond of spending time with Ellie. It’s heartwarming to see that they are thriving together under Rachel’s care; their happiness is a testament to the bond they all share.
