When truck drivers arrived at a sand pit in Crosby, Texas, to pick up some material, they discovered an abandoned dog. The pup was staring into the distance, as if hoping to see her owners, unaware that they had left her behind.
Searching For A Foster Family
The drivers reached out to Megan, whose family owns the sand pit, requesting assistance for the pup. Unfortunately, many animals are abandoned there, which is how Megan became involved in animal rescue. She sent food daily while the kind drivers ensured that Dutchie was well-fed.
“We always send our dump truck drivers and operators with bags of dog food to feed the dogs down there, asking them to take pictures and video,” Megan mentioned. After receiving the footage, she posted it on her Facebook page, seeking a foster for Dutchie. The drivers consistently checked on the pup, sending daily updates while trying to gain her trust.
Often, Dutchie would hide and sleep on a pile of tires near the sand pit.
Megan Is Thrilled To Give Dutchie Happy News
Lola’s Lucky Day, an organization focused on rescuing homeless pets in Houston and Dallas, found a foster for Dutchie. Upon hearing the news, Megan was overjoyed and immediately rushed to rescue her.
“It was a relief. It was like a party. I felt so glad knowing there was a solution; I never wanted to leave them behind any longer,” Megan expressed. Upon reaching the sand pit, she searched for Dutchie. The black tires provided perfect camouflage for the black pup.
When Dutchie finally peeked out from the tires, Megan’s heart melted. Climbing out, she greeted her rescuer excitedly while also looking for food.
“And then she came out of the tires and was excited to see me. She approached right away, looking for food, but she was friendly,” Megan said.
Successfully securing a leash around her neck, the adorable pup looked at Megan with trusting eyes, rolling onto her back for a belly rub.
Megan was instantly captivated by Dutchie, who spent the night in her home, relishing the warmth of a real family.
“When I put her in the backyard, it was all grass, and I knew she felt something different. It was a homelike experience compared to where she had been, struggling alone. She could finally be herself,” Megan shared.
Enjoying Her Time At The Foster Home
The following day, Megan transported Dutchie to her foster home with Kaitlin and Lauren. During her initial days there, while Dutchie was initially wary and unsure, she craved affection. A vet visit revealed she had heartworm, an injured ankle, and hip issues, but after receiving treatment, she began to feel better.
With patience and lots of love from her foster parents, Dutchie gradually learned to trust, overcoming her fears. She began enjoying snuggles, transforming into a confident and joyous puppy with a big smile. Eager to start a new chapter, she was ready to put her past behind her.
