The experience of being abandoned can be deeply distressing for a pet. When JJ was taken to the Harris County Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas, without any explanation from his owner, he was in a state of utter fear.
Imagine being a pet who has always been surrounded by love and suddenly finds themselves in an unfamiliar environment with no understanding of what’s happening. That’s precisely what occurred to JJ, a dog in need.
Upon his arrival at the shelter, he was visibly terrified, trembling, and cowering in the corner of his kennel. Witnessing him in such anguish was truly heartbreaking.
Completely Overwhelmed by Fear
In dire need of a foster home, JJ was struggling within the shelter’s environment.
Having been given up by the person he adored the most, JJ felt utterly lost and overwhelmingly frightened. The constant shaking he endured was a testament to his fear.
“THIS is what happens to a dog that’s been abandoned by its owner. PETRIFIED. SHAKING. COWERING. JJ is utterly terrified as everything he’s ever known has been taken away. This poor dog is so afraid, not knowing what lies ahead for him,” a Facebook page ‘Houston & Harris County Animal Volunteers’ stated in their post.
Seeing JJ’s confused and terrified state prompted Big Love Rescue from Cypress, Texas, to compassionately step in and rescue this sweet dog.
They quickly arranged to take him out of the shelter and provided him with a foster home.
Upon his arrival at the foster home, JJ was still overwhelmed with fear, shaking, and disoriented. He was hesitant to enter the house or venture into the yard, but his fosters showed remarkable patience and understanding.
They respected his space needs, giving him time to decompress and gradually build trust.
Despite his lingering fear, JJ gradually began to warm up as the days passed. Allowing his foster parents to give him gentle head rubs marked a significant breakthrough, igniting a spark of hope that he would be alright.
JJ’s Journey to a Forever Home
During his stay at the foster home, it became evident that JJ is a loving little soul who enjoys snuggling.
“JJ is a joyful dog who craves companionship with his humans, loves to play with his toys, and seeks plenty of belly rubs. He gets along well with men, women, and adores children. JJ is a cuddly lapdog, curling up in your lap after a fun day. It’s simply adorable. He is responsive and understands several commands, such as sit, stay, lie down, and shake. He walks exceptionally well on a leash and is crate trained,” Big Love Rescue shared in their post.
Though JJ is the perfect companion for a family, it took time for him to discover his forever home. Following the harrowing experience he faced, JJ needed someone to nurture him and help him become the affectionate dog he truly is.
Thankfully, after several months of searching, JJ finally found his forever family.
He is genuinely thriving with his loving parents and his furry best friend.
