Tennessee Rescuer Stunned to Discover 2 Struggling Dogs Asleep on the Street and Takes Action to Help

Date:

Winter poses significant challenges for our furry companions. Regardless of the quantity or quality of food provided, a dog without adequate shelter during a chilly winter day runs the risk of hypothermia.

Unfortunately, for Moose and Greta, proper shelter was nowhere to be found.

This inseparable duo of dogs roamed the streets of Memphis, Tennessee, always together, even during the harshest of times. As freezing temperatures and snowstorms struck, they huddled close, hoping for a better outcome.

A Heartbreaking Sight

Suzy Hollenbach from All 4s Rescue League in Memphis, Tennessee, was acutely aware of Moose and Greta’s plight and quickly sprang into action to provide help.

“I often saw them trying to rest on debris or in a field behind the corner store. We called them in several times to offer safety, but nothing materialized. Fast forward to the storm, and I found them curled up behind the store, braving the snow,” she detailed on the rescue’s Facebook.

She alerted Memphis Animal Services about the dire situation and the fact that they were truly freezing. However, when MAS indicated they had no room available for the dogs, she took matters into her own hands.

Thanks to her organization, Suzy found a foster for these two stray gems on the very same day. The volunteer, Rebecca, welcomed them into her home, but what unfolded in the next 24 hours truly shattered her heart.

Once they adjusted and became comfortable after enduring the cold for so long, Moose and Greta immediately fell asleep – and they slept the entire day away!

They were utterly drained and weak from the harsh conditions of the streets, and a lengthy, well-earned nap was all they needed.

Then came the unexpected twist! A pleasant one, indeed!

The Pawfect Outcome

Initially, it seemed that the journey for Moose and Greta toward a foster home (or a permanent one) would be lengthy – but Shannon Carpenter proved otherwise!

This compassionate foster welcomed these two loving pups into her home, providing them with a temporary refuge until they found a forever home. Or so she believed!

In just a few weeks of bonding with their foster mom, Greta and Moose blossomed into wonderful companions. They mastered basic obedience, adapted to living indoors, and, most importantly – they learned to stay close to their momma’s side!

“They stick to my side unless I have to go somewhere that they can’t accompany me. No leash needed. They recognize where home is, very well. Such sweet babies,” Shannon remarked on Facebook.

Despite their past, both pups acted as if they had always been part of a family. They had loving natures and the sweetest personalities, bringing immense joy!

Shortly after her agreement to foster them, Shannon realized that she simply couldn’t part with Moose and Greta. Hence, she made the decision to adopt them – for good!

Currently, this amazing trio resides on a farm, relishing in countless adventures and joyful activities together.

“I couldn’t be prouder of these amazing pups! They’ve taken to farm life wonderfully. From horses to riding in my van, my work truck, and even the carriage (with a trainee), they can truly go anywhere… I feel so incredibly blessed to have the smartest ‘ride or die’ dogs in Memphis, in just a few short months,” Shannon expressed in a Facebook post.

What started as a temporary foster arrangement has evolved into a forever home. For Moose, Greta, and Shannon, it’s the perfect match!
