This was precisely the case for Matt Garcia and his wife, who, upon moving into their new home in Tennessee, encountered a furry surprise that elevated their experience.
Unexpected Guest
When visiting their new residence, Matt and his wife anticipated that only the beauty of the house might startle them. Instead, they were taken aback by an unexpected, furry guest. This Basset Hound was sound asleep right next to the front door, seemingly claiming the place as his own. As devoted dog lovers, Matt and his wife were thrilled to find this pup but were puzzled.
“I found something today, in our planter that kind of came as a little surprise,” Matt shared on TikTok, referring to the sweet ginger dog.
“We found this little buddy in our planter, just kind of sleeping. He’s fine, but we don’t know what to do with him. We fed him and gave him water, but unfortunately, there’s no tag on that collar,” Matt explained.

His TikTok followers jumped in with plenty of suggestions. One user advised: “Get him scanned at a local vet for a microchip 🤷🏼♀️”, while another proposed, “Put a bed on that porch for that baby.” A third quipped: “CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW DOG AND HIS HOME.” Matt replied to the last comment: “Update posted!”
“A Pretty Good Routine”
Just days later, Matt shared a “part two” on TikTok, revealing that Copper, the dog, wasn’t a stray but actually lived a couple of miles away. He discovered that the dog’s name was indeed Copper.

While viewers were relieved to learn that Copper had a home, they expressed concern about his owners allowing him to roam freely, especially near a perilous train track. One viewer even suggested: “If you don’t already, put a ring camera. That way you will know when he stops by and can give him treats.” Matt confirmed he missed Copper, who had not visited in a few days, but thankfully, the furry friend did make a return shortly after.
In his latest TikTok video, Matt joyously reunited with Copper, much to the delight of his followers. One commented, “He needs a forever home and regular food and love; he needs YOU!” yet Matt assured everyone that Copper appeared to have a solid routine, stopping by for pets, water, and a little food before dozing off contentedly.
