Ten Years Later, Adorable Dog Rescued as a Puppy at Texas Shelter Still Seeks a Forever Home

Date:

Monty and his brother, Phoenix, were surrendered to animal control as just four-and-a-half-week-old puppies. They were taken in by the Kathleen C. Cailloux Humane Society of Kerrville (KCHS) in Texas, where the caring staff showered them with love, hoping they’d soon find permanent homes. Although timid and insecure, the brothers adapted to life behind the shelter walls, spending their days playing in the grass, dreaming of freedom and love.

Monty Experiences A Heartbreak

Monty was lucky to find a home first, while Phoenix remained at the shelter. Monty was thrilled to start his new life, believing it was his happy ending. He spent four wonderful years with his new family, embracing his freedom and the family life he had always wanted. Unfortunately, everything changed when his family returned him to the shelter. By that time, Monty was not the playful puppy he once was.

Upon his return, Monty did not reunite with his brother, Phoenix, who had found a forever home.

The KCHS staff noted Monty’s timidity but remained hopeful that he would eventually find a loving home. Sadly, their hopes have yet to be realized. It’s been nearly seven years since his adoptive family returned him to the shelter, and Monty continues to wait for someone to offer him a second chance at love. Those who meet Monty fall in love with him and hope he finally finds his forever family.

Dreaming Of Finally Finding Forever Humans

While Monty’s personality has largely remained unchanged, the color of his fur has transformed over the years. His once-black coat is now sprinkled with gray, a poignant reminder of the lengthy wait for a forever home. Since returning to the shelter, he has exhibited signs of anxiety around other animals, making it difficult for him to socialize.

Despite these challenges, Monty doesn’t let anxiety hinder his enjoyment of life. He loves his time with his favorite humans, remaining the affectionate and playful pup he has always been.

“Monty may be old [in] years, but he is still a puppy at heart. He loves to be dressed up in sweaters and tutus, and he also loves his [pajamas]”, shared Mackenzie, KCHC’s director, with The Dodo. Despite his anxiety and challenges in getting along with other animals and children, Monty’s friends at the shelter believe he would make an ideal furry companion.

“Although he doesn’t get along with other animals or children, he is the sweetest soul you would ever meet. He does still love to go on his daily walks, but he hangs out for [the] majority of his day and has major puppy-dog eyes for anybody who looks at him,” Mackenzie added.

Monty eagerly anticipates the day he will finally find his perfect match and receive the love he has been longing for.
