Sweet Pup Reaches Out with His Paw, Seeking Attention from Potential Adopters

Date:

Unfortunately, we humans often overlook how intimidating shelters can be.

This is largely because we usually only see the dedicated shelter staff working diligently to provide the best possible experience for each animal. However, their efforts have limitations.

Animals truly require the kind of personal attention that comes from their very own humans. Even a simple playdate can make a significant impact.

Sadly, the pup named Lancer didn’t experience that for very long.

Searching for a Companion

Like any other pup, Lancer believed his time in the shelter would be brief.

However, after spending seven months at the City of Mobile Animal Services in Alabama, Lancer began to feel a bit disheartened.

This charming pup, however, held onto his hope and took the initiative to change his circumstances.

“Whenever someone walked by his kennel, he would extend his paw, hoping to get some attention,” said Mary Kate Hale, the digital media manager for City of Mobile Animal Services, in an interview with The Dodo.

Whenever a prospective adopter visited the Alabama shelter, Lancer would rush to the door of his kennel, stand on his hind legs, and reach as far as possible through the opening.

He would then wave his adorable little paw, hoping that someone would see him and instantly fall in love.

All this sweet boy wanted was to finally become part of a caring family.

“Lancer is well-known for his pleasant disposition and love for peanut butter. After having a round of zoomies, he often takes a nap in a shaded area, sprawled out like a frog,” Hale shared.

Good Things Will Eventually Arrive

One day, Lancer spotted a volunteer about to walk past his kennel, so he did what he did best: flashed his cutest smile and extended his paw through the fence.

The volunteer, smitten by the cuteness, decided to take a photo. Realizing it would brighten everyone’s day, they chose to share the photo and Lancer’s story on social media.

And naturally, the world became enamored with this sweet boy.

“Within 24 hours of being posted on Facebook, Lancer captured the heart of his future dad, Nick,” said Hale.

Just by glancing at that photo, Nick could see what a wonderful boy Lancer was. He also recognized that Lancer would be a perfect addition to his family.

So, after meeting him in person, Nick finalized the adoption and provided Lancer with the love and attention he had always desired.

Since then, this sweet boy has truly flourished in his new home. He fills his days with play, snacks, and lots of food.

And the cherry on top is… whenever Lancer reaches out his paw, Nick is right there to hold it!
