Although dogs are known as man’s best friend, many unfortunately fall victim to their owners’ cruelty. Instead of basking in a loving home, some are left to scavenge the streets for shelter and food when their owners decide to abandon them.
Anderson experienced this tragic fate when he was cruelly discarded in Box Canyon, Mecca, California. This gentle Cane Corso spent days wandering the wilderness alone. Just when he was on the brink of despair, a couple stumbled upon him!
Inhumane Act

While camping nearby, Jason and Katie were astonished to find a Cane Corso curled up at their campsite. Struck by the sight of a dog alone in the desolate area, Jason approached him gently, offering water, which the dog accepted eagerly. Anderson was severely emaciated and struggling to stand. As they suspected he had been abandoned, they reached out to Kirk Geiger, co-founder of The Animal Rescue Center Of California.

“When we first found him, he couldn’t lift his head, had a difficult time standing, and his eyes were bloodshot from dehydration,” Katie explained to Kirk. Within hours, the seasoned rescuer arrived at the scene. Although he was initially nervous, Anderson quickly warmed up to Kirk. Surprisingly, it took only one day for this resilient pup to start socializing with others, which was commendable given his previous ordeal.
Kirk offered Anderson food, and the canine responded eagerly. After the introduction, they drove to the facility for further care.
Off To A New Start
The veterinary exam revealed that Anderson was about a year and a half old and, astonishingly, he was healthy despite his past struggles. His pleasant demeanor shone through as he made new friends easily and he excelled on his assessment, exhibiting no aggression towards other dogs. His enthusiasm suggested he had previous training.
“He’s been a joy to have, and we’ve completely fallen in love with this breed. He’s such an amazing dog—sweet, goofy, devoted, and incredibly intelligent,” his rescuers shared.
Anderson’s story quickly gained traction on social media, and within days, applications came pouring in. However, one applicant stood out. Jay, a dog owner with a Cane Corso and a Shih Tzu, immediately fell in love with Anderson’s tale and decided to meet him. A bond formed instantly, confirming that Jay was meant to be Anderson’s new dad!
“It was undeniable that they were a perfect match. Anderson took to Jay right away, and being a natural leader, Jay commanded his attention,” noted The Animal Rescue Center Of California.
They drove off together to begin a new chapter in Jay’s loving home in Oregon. After enduring so much, Anderson finally discovered a nurturing owner who showed him what true love means, and now he was set to embark on a thrilling life journey!
With his two canine companions, he is sure to enjoy endless fun in his new family and, most importantly, he will never have to fear abandonment again!
