When this courageous Lab girl was discovered outside a shelter in California, she was on the brink of surrendering. Amber was severely malnourished, frail, and nearly incapable of lifting her head.
Then came a heart-wrenching moment!
She had nothing with her except a small Teddy bear that she clung to tightly. Witnessing her tied up, snuggling her fluffy friend, shattered the hearts of her rescuers. But that wasn’t the entirety of her tale…
A Girl With The Sweetest Secret
To make things even more complicated, Amber was also expecting a litter!
That very night, after she was rescued and taken to a shelter in the Bay Area, she gave birth to six tiny yellow puppies.
“Yellow lab Mama Amber was left tied to shelter fence in the middle of the night, very pregnant, and she delivered the next day at the shelter,” the DARP team shared on Facebook.
Fortunately, the dedicated shelter volunteers provided her with companionship and care throughout the process, making Amber feel slightly more secure.
The following morning, the Dogwood Animal Rescue Project team from Sonoma County, California, took Amber and her pups into their care after hearing their story.
On her very first day at the rescue, Amber was understandably quite fatigued and anxious.
“During her first 24 hours with us, she mostly rested in her warm, quiet bed, undoubtedly tired from her time at the shelter with her stuffy (which also doubled as a pillow) and from immediately going into labor to care for her newborns,” her caregivers wrote on Facebook.
Amber required some time to recuperate, but her circumstances did not hinder her from being an incredible mother.
Finally Warm And Safe Inside
She was a devoted caregiver throughout, ensuring her puppies were safe and well-nourished. Tragically, shortly after their arrival at the new facility, one of her puppies sadly passed away.
Though this outcome was somewhat anticipated due to Amber’s high-stress levels and her malnourished state, the loss was still profoundly heartbreaking.
Amber and her human companions felt a significant void with the departure of their furry family member, yet they knew they had to continue moving forward – for Amber and her remaining puppies.
After a couple of weeks, this remarkable girl gradually began to come out of her shell, revealing her sweet and gentle personality!
Everyone was charmed by Amber’s affectionate spirit, as she displayed a delightful puppy-like quality while also being an attentive mom, seeking affection and reciprocating it generously.
Most importantly, her caregivers were overjoyed that Amber and her puppies had finally been given a second chance!
“It’s cold, rainy and blowing outside, but Amber’s little family is warm and safe inside. We’re incredibly grateful to provide them with a loving and secure home,” the rescue wrote in a Facebook post.
After a challenging past, likely the toughest chapter of her life, Amber and her five puppies are now on an optimistic path forward.
From this point onward, they will anticipate the day when loving humans will walk through that door, hoping to make them a permanent part of their family!
