South Carolina Rescuers Moved by Note from Boy to His Dog After Surrendering Him

Date:

When visiting a shelter, the untold stories behind those sad puppy eyes can be heart-wrenching. Rhoudy, the surrendered three-year-old Terrier mix, had a story that left everyone in shock. Upon meeting this sturdy boy, the wonderful team at the Greenville Humane Society in South Carolina thought he was just another shelter dog—until they discovered a small note from his previous owners.

This tiny piece of paper, adorned with a child’s simple drawing and heartfelt message, moved everyone to tears. The note read: “We love you Rhoudy. I will miss you, Rhoudy. But you’re going home! And I hope your people love you as much as I do,” encapsulating the pain of his siblings who could not hide their heartbreak.

“We Know How Hard It Was To Say Goodbye”

Although Rhoudy’s backstory remained largely unknown, the heartfelt note was undoubtedly one of the most difficult letters for his caregivers to read. The rescue team sought to track down his family but found it impossible. In a bid to comfort the grieving siblings, they responded through social media, hoping they would see it.

“We know how hard it was to say goodbye. But you were so brave and so strong. Sometimes hard decisions have to be made, but he knows how much you love him,” GHS wrote in a Facebook post.

The touching reply quickly went viral, resonating with countless individuals nationwide. GHS was determined to reassure everyone that Rhoudy was now in good hands.

“He’s doing so good. He’s gone for lots of walks and has all of the toys you brought him in his bed. He’s being given so much love. Yes, he misses you. But he will always love you. Don’t you ever forget that, OK,” shared the South Carolina rescue.

“I’m a bit of a rough and tumble kind of guy and I love to play and rough-house with other dogs… I’m looking for a family who will give me lots of love and attention, and who will keep me active and engaged,” stated the rescue on their website. Rhoudy eagerly awaits the right family that will love him just as he is—a pawesome, adventurous companion destined to fill one lucky home with joy!
