Why are dogs so loyal to humans? This age-old question has intrigued many. While the obvious answer points to domestication and the bond formed between species, the reality is more complex. Dogs, as pack animals, possess social instincts that foster loyalty not just to fellow canines but to humans as well. Hence, it’s heartbreaking to witness this unwavering loyalty go unreciprocated; it’s truly sad when a devoted dog is abandoned by those he cherishes the most.
A Depressing Sight

On a particularly rainy day in South Carolina, a rescuer named Angela Simmons received a call about an abandoned dog at a trailer park. Neighbors had spotted him lying on an outdoor couch, waiting in vain for someone to come back for him. Noticing his outgoing demeanor despite the harsh conditions, Simmons approached him and discovered that his paws and nose were irritated, likely from waiting outside for so long. She brought him to a rescue shelter called Auction For A Kaws, where he was named Murphy and helped to adjust.
As one staff member noted to The Dodo: Once he entered foster care, he proved to be the biggest love bug.
A New Beginning For Murphy

Murphy’s spirit blossomed over time, allowing him to return to the joyful activities he once loved, spending quality moments on walks, riding in cars, rolling around in his bed, and basking in the sun. The shelter’s staff quickly grew fond of him, and everyone who crossed paths with him was charmed by his friendly nature.
One worker shared, He loves other dogs and is very intelligent. He is eager to learn and has amazing manners.

After some time spent enjoying recovery and fun activities, the shelter staff concluded it was time to put him up for adoption. They even created a video on Instagram to highlight his story and find him a loving family.
The caption read: We are so thrilled to offer Murphy for adoption! Murphy is a 45-pound pit mix located in Greenville, South Carolina. He is approximately 3 1/2 years old, housetrained, very loving, walks great on a leash, and loves all people.
