When puppies are born, they require their mother’s unconditional love and nurturing to thrive into happy dogs. Unfortunately, some puppies are deprived of this vital experience. Koby, a Pit Bull mix, was one of those unfortunate pups, separated from his mother when he needed her the most. His owners were breeders who left Koby and his siblings at a shelter in South Carolina simply because they weren’t pure Pit Bulls. Instead of being curled up next to their mom, the little siblings were found huddled together in a cardboard box, yearning for compassion and love.
A New Life
The shelter staff welcomed the puppies immediately upon discovering them. Koby and his siblings were fortunate, as Ollie’s Angels Animal Rescue, a non-profit organization from New York, took them into their care. In 2021, a newlywed couple, Steven and Jessica, decided to adopt a dog and visited the rescue center. They fell in love with a sweet tan Pit Bull puppy named Koby the moment they met him. Koby felt an immediate connection with Steven and Jessica during their first embrace. “The first time we got to hold him, he just sunk in our arms,” Steven shared with GeoBeats Animals. That same day, they took Koby to his forever home.
Initially, Koby struggled to adapt to his new environment, finding it hard to sleep during those first nights. To facilitate his comfort, his parents purchased a stuffed animal that warms and mimics a heartbeat, which helped Koby settle in. Over time, he blossomed into a loving pooch who relishes cuddling with his dad on the couch.
Before Koby came into their lives, Steven didn’t realize how much affection Pit Bulls could share with their humans. Steven and Jessica showered Koby with love, raising him as if he were their own child. The adorable pup always wants to be by their side, feeling sad when he can’t join them. His parents can easily discern his emotions just by gazing into his eyes. “It’s like looking at a person. You know exactly what he’s feeling just based on his eyes alone,” Jessica remarked to GeoBeats Animals.
Koby Adores His Parents
Both Steven and Jessica recognized the impact of Koby’s early separation from his mother; he longed for her warmth and affection. However, Koby responded with unconditional love towards his human parents. The devoted dog was particularly attentive to Jessica during her pregnancy, often resting his head against her baby bump, ensuring her safety. Though Koby adores both of his parents, his strongest bond is with Steven. He often sits by the window, eagerly awaiting his father’s return from work. When his dad arrives home, Koby rushes to shower him with hugs and kisses, making their reunion heartwarming. Steven describes Koby as a son, embracing the joy he brings to their lives. They can’t fathom life without their loving boy.
“He’s become such an important part of my every day. If I have a tough day at work, it’s nice coming home to a beautiful wife, but it’s also nice coming home to somebody that you know is guaranteed gonna greet you with excitement and hugs and kisses,” Steven expressed.
Koby often updates his followers on Instagram, sharing glimpses of his life with his family and proudly embracing his role as a big brother to his human sister, whom he loves dearly.
