Small, Fearful Dog Struggling to Survive on the Streets of Virginia Finds His Forever Home

Date:

Starting life on the streets is incredibly challenging, and perhaps even more disheartening is deciding to end it there. Dogs have a profound understanding of this, as their existence entirely relies on the affection of a family.

A small senior dog faced a grim future, having spent his golden years on the street and struggling to survive without assistance. To exacerbate matters, he was battling various health issues.

Yet, one fateful day, everything changed, and a new chapter of his life was about to unfold.

Mr. Little Was Surviving On The Streets

One day, the team from True & Faithful Pet Rescue spotted a tiny pup wandering alone. He was a Pomeranian mix.

They chose to name him Mr. Little due to his petite size. In reality, Little was a senior dog, estimated to be around 12 years of age.

With age came various health challenges. He struggled to walk on his back legs, suffered from an enlarged heart and a heart murmur, and was also partially blind.

To address his issues, he required an echocardiogram to greenlight surgery for a perineal hernia, along with dental work, neutering, and several other procedures.

Fortunately, thanks to compassionate individuals, this courageous little soul triumphed. They provided him with wheels to aid his mobility and he was on medication for his heart and cough for an extended period.

Nothing could deter him from relishing his new life, eagerly anticipating each new day and the possibilities it brought.

Before long, his future unfolded into something remarkable.

He Quickly Became A Family Favorite

On July 6, 2023, True and Faithful Pet Rescue shared some heartwarming news on their official Instagram page.

“We made it to Virginia,” they announced. “We are just a few hours away and will share photos and videos of this amazing senior adoption!!”

Mr. Little was on his way to his new home in Lake Caroline, Virginia, where he would meet his new parents and his two canine siblings, Joey and Kiku.

Joey and Kiku were also rescued senior dogs. They were still mourning the passing of their sister, Cindy, who had recently passed away. However, Mr. Little’s arrival began to mend their hearts and bring joy back into their lives.

Rocket, as his new mother named him, quickly blended into the family, winning hearts all around. He developed a particularly close bond with Joey, with whom he became inseparable.

“Joey and Rocket are both almost blind,” shared their mom for GeoBeats Animals. “They seek each other out for comfort, and when they’re close, they just enjoy each other’s company.”

It’s clear why Joey instantly formed such a bond with him; they were perfect companions.

However, Joey wasn’t the only one who fell head over heels for Rocket. This adorable pup swiftly earned the title of the community’s favorite dog.

His popularity extended beyond the neighborhood, as he became the beloved Instadog on their official Instagram account, with one of his videos becoming the most-watched of all.

From being a semi-paralyzed stray dog to becoming the adored member of a family and an Instagram sensation, Rocket’s transformation was truly remarkable.

Every Moment With Him Was Perfect

Rocket’s new family dedicated themselves to ensuring his comfort, pursuing various therapies to assist him with walking, and providing him with a tailored diet.

Sadly, the passage of time took its toll, and that inevitable difficult day arrived. On December 21, 2022, his mother shared the sorrowful news on her Instagram account.

“With a heavy heart, I must inform you all that Rocket passed away yesterday. Every moment of his brief time with us was idyllic. He was a loving, gentle, and treasured soul ❣️” she wrote.

Rocket, previously known as Mr. Little, has journeyed across the rainbow bridge, leaving behind a grieving family and countless admirers.

Yet, among the tears were also ones of joy, for instead of experiencing a cold, harsh life on the streets, he concluded his earthly journey in a cozy home surrounded by a caring family. Every moment he spent with them was indeed a blessing.

Rest in peace, dear Rocket.
