Every dog deserves a life filled with love and happiness.
Sadly, we are continually reminded that numerous dogs around the globe, especially older ones and those with special needs, are denied the fulfilling lives they should have.
These dogs not only face challenges in finding adopters but are also at a higher risk of euthanasia.
Fortunately, the dogs in today’s story evaded such fate, thanks to compassionate humans who recognized their true potential.
A Unique Story
In a touching post on their Facebook page, Greenacres Rescue shared the heart-wrenching story of a lovely female spaniel puppy who was taken into their care after being left behind in a parking lot.
“She was born with six legs and other various abnormalities,” the rescue detailed in the post.
Without any knowledge of her past life, the rescue opted to take her to the veterinarian and initiate a diagnostic process along with a treatment plan for the puppy with hopes of facilitating a regular life for her.
Named Arie, Mikey Lawlor from Greenacres Rescue mentioned in an interview with the Western Telegraph that they decided on the name because someone remarked that she resembled a mermaid.
Once the test results were in, the team was relieved to discover that she was a healthy and happy puppy, and the extra legs could be surgically removed.
“Ariel has two extra back legs and the early stages of an additional vulva. Her pelvis is malformed due to the extra hip joint. The plan is to let her adjust after her ordeal and reevaluate her in one month with the aim of removing the extra limbs and examining the function of her remaining leg,” indicated the shelter in a post.
A New Chapter
After giving her some time to settle and decompress, she underwent numerous vet visits, scans, and specialist consultations to ensure that her caregivers were fully informed about the next steps.
Months later, Ariel was ready for her surgical procedure.
The surgery went smoothly.
“She is doing extremely well, bouncing back and displaying a happy demeanor. We’re optimistic that she will lead an amazing life,” remarked the surgeon, Aaron Lutchman, during an interview with BBC.
According to Lawlor, by the very next day, Ariel was eager to explore her surroundings on her own paws. She was placed with loving foster parents who ensured her recovery process was as smooth as possible.
It was no surprise that within months, Ariel had fully recuperated and was ready to embark on a new phase in her life – finding a forever family.
A Permanent Home
Since Ariel captured the hearts of many, her shelter has been inundated with applications for adoption. Yet, one particular application resonated the most.
A family who had just lost their cherished dog was seeking a furry companion to mend their aching hearts, and they found that companion in Ariel!
“Ariel is already adored by so many and has been through an incredible journey. Raised by a wonderful individual named June, who has lavished care on her, Ariel is a beautiful, lively, and gentle girl who is already spreading joy in our lives,” Emma-Mary Webster expressed in a Facebook post.
Ariel’s story is a wonderful reminder of the goodness in humanity.
Many individuals united to help this lovely pup not just overcome her challenges, but also to give her a life filled with purpose.
“We extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed to transforming this once-neglected puppy into a cherished companion,” concluded Greenacres Rescue in a post on their page.
