Shy Dog Overcomes Her Fears After Finding Loving New Parents

Date:

The loss of a cherished pet is one of the most devastating experiences an owner can endure. After sharing countless joyful moments with your furry friend, it’s incredibly challenging to wake up one day and find that they’re no longer there.

However, life continues, and even though the emotional scars may never completely fade, finding a path to happiness again is essential. A wonderful way to achieve this is by welcoming a new dog into your life, someone who can help fill the emptiness.

This is precisely what a young couple from Maine chose to do after saying goodbye to their long-time pet, Lola. Yet, their new dog was strikingly different from her.

When Shelby and Asher arrived at the airport to pick up Fawn, they were filled with excitement, finally able to begin healing from the loss of their precious Lola.

Upon meeting her, Fawn quickly found a spot in their arms and began her journey to her new forever home. As they drove back to Maine, Shelby and Asher noticed nothing unusual about Fawn’s demeanor.

It wasn’t until they arrived home that they realized how many emotional scars Fawn carried. She was visibly anxious and seemed to fear them.

Thus, Fawn established a safe haven in a cozy bed, spending all night there without movement. This pattern continued in the days that followed, as she picked up the toys her new parents had gotten for her, only to play with them alone beneath a chest of drawers.

“She wouldn’t let us approach her at all,” Shelby shared in her interview with The Dodo.

Although this situation saddened them, especially when remembering Lola’s contrasting behavior, they made the choice to honor Fawn’s personal space in hopes of gradually winning her trust. Shelby and Asher firmly believed that an important moment would eventually arrive.

And indeed, they were correct.

“Suddenly A Spirited Puppy”

A few days after arriving at their home, Shelby and Asher decided to celebrate Fawn’s presence with a pajama party. Much to their joy, the atmosphere shifted positively as Fawn began to reveal her true self.

“Shelby was the first person she cuddled with,” Asher beamed. Soon after, Fawn began to nuzzle against him as well, a clear indication that her trust was finally blossoming.

“Then, almost overnight, she transformed into a lively puppy,” Asher noted. “It felt as though she was reliving her puppyhood.”

This was undoubtedly a joyful milestone for the couple, marking a significant change in their lives.

Fawn had become a different dog, embracing her new family with enthusiasm: embarking on outings, joining in on training with Asher, savoring treats from her doting parents, and so much more.

“Our bond has strengthened significantly because I’ve truly had to earn her trust,” Asher remarked, while Shelby added: “Fawn’s presence has rejuvenated my life immensely.”

Although grieving the loss of Lola and working to build trust with Fawn was a challenging process, the effort proved to be worthwhile, and this family now shines with renewed happiness and joy.
