I truly believe that dogs are here to warm our hearts and bring joy to our lives.
This is why it fills me with rage and sorrow to witness anyone treating these lovable, furry creatures poorly. They devote their lives to bringing happiness to their humans, yet many fail to recognize that dedication.
Sadly, the dog in today’s story, Mishka, suffered deeply at the hands of her owner in an utterly heartbreaking fashion.
Poor Mishka
When the Sunshine Animal Rescue, a nonprofit based in Miami, encountered Mishka, her health was quite poor.
They quickly conducted a medical assessment, which revealed that she required urgent treatment. Sadly, this treatment came with a hefty price tag, which posed a challenge for her previous owners.
“Mishka was brought to the ER by her previous owners. Upon learning that her care would cost $2,500, they chose to euthanize her and left,” Lauren Dawson told Newsweek.
The underlying issue was not merely the inability to pay the medical expenses, but the fact that they abandoned Mishka during her time of greatest need.
However, the compassionate team at this Miami rescue wasn’t ready to give up on her. They turned to their social media community, reaching out to their loyal supporters for assistance.
“She was facing euthanasia. Mishka required extensive ongoing medical care to lift her from the brink of death, with costs already exceeding $7,000 and continuing to rise. We are both financially and emotionally exhausted. Please, if possible, contribute to help us sustain our vital work,” they shared in a Facebook post.
Many kind-hearted individuals quickly stepped up to donate to Mishka’s cause. This outpouring of support boosted the team’s morale, motivating them to persist for this precious pup.
Second Chance at Life
Even though the dedicated team members were unaware of the complete story of Mishka’s past, they committed to doing everything possible to make her experience as relaxing and inviting as it could be.
“She was significantly underweight and gravely ill. For days, we were uncertain about her survival. A veterinarian and other rescuers suggested that she might have been living outdoors,” added Dawson.
Nevertheless, Dawson believes that negligence is what led this dear girl to her current state.
The veterinarians suspected that she initially suffered from an upper respiratory infection that later evolved into something far more serious.
Yet ultimately, the past is irrelevant.
What truly matters is that Mishka is now getting the assistance she so urgently needs, enveloped by the most caring humans imaginable. And believe me, they ensure she receives everything she requires and beyond.
This is clearly demonstrated by the remarkable progress in her health.
“Mishka is thriving and has been moved to a medical foster home. Here, she is closely monitored and kept on oxygen. Finally, Mishka is responding well to her treatment and revealing her playful personality,” they shared in an update.
They expressed their heartfelt gratitude to every individual who extended their support and contributed to Mishka’s recovery.
“This journey would not have been achievable without our fantastic donors and your abundant love and support. Thank you all for aiding Mishka on her path to healing!” they concluded.
