Shelter Pup Overcomes Fear and Finds a Forever Home After Clinging to a Staff Member’s Leg

Date:

The journey from a loving home to a crowded shelter can be incredibly traumatic for dogs that have been abandoned.

Visualize the fear and bewilderment experienced by a once-loved pet as they are surrounded by a cacophony of unknown sounds, separated from their favorite human, and engulfed by the daunting uncertainty of their new environment.

Amidst this turmoil, it is the shelter staff and volunteers who offer solace to these frightened pups.

Some dogs, like a Pittie mix named Andy Cohen, require all the comfort they can get from the shelter.

Introducing Andy Cohen

Interestingly, Andy Cohen isn’t just the name of a famous American radio and TV talk show host and producer; it is also the name of a Pittie mix who was brought to the Tift County Animal Shelter in Tifton, Georgia, after his former owner could no longer care for him.

At the beginning of November 2023, Andy Cohen and three other dogs were surrendered to the shelter.

Leah Robinson, the rescue coordinator at Tift County Animal Shelter, informed Newsweek that the owner expressed he was returning to his job as a truck driver and could no longer keep his pets.

“They were heartbroken upon arrival, all huddled together in fear. Andy Cohen was shy, distressed, and feeling abandoned,” she shared.

To promote the adoption and fostering of shelter dogs during the holiday season, the shelter decided to share a video featuring sweet Andy Cohen, who sought solace from the staff.

Clearly frightened and disheartened, this lovely dog clung to the leg of a worker, simply unwilling to let go. He desperately needed a comforting presence to show him affection.

The viral video showcases this beautiful canine with a sorrowful expression, receiving gentle strokes from the worker as he embraces her leg.

A Thanksgiving Miracle

Due to the continual anxiety and stress Andy felt at the shelter, the management decided to transfer him to another location in New York City – their sister shelter known as Waldo’s Rescue Pen.

“We wanted him to receive a fresh start with a loving family,” Robinson commented.

Fortunately, things unfolded just as they had envisioned.

When Waldo’s Rescue Pen shared Andy Cohen’s video, it touched many hearts and drew sympathy for his plight.

Lucky for him, it didn’t take long for him to find the ideal home, right before Thanksgiving.

We can all guess what Andy Cohen – now known as Buddy – felt grateful for this Thanksgiving.

“He is now called Buddy and is enjoying his best life with his family in New York. We are thrilled for Buddy and his new family! Thank you for choosing Waldo’s Rescue,” they shared in a video announcing the joyous news.
