Shelter Dog Reunited with Family After Member Trusts Instinct to Search for Pet

Date:

Someone once expressed a lovely sentiment: “Life is not just one journey, but a multitude of them,” and it’s truly resonant.

Regardless of the numerous unforeseen twists you may face, there always exists a possibility that you will find your way onto the correct path… Well, let’s hope for the best!

This is exactly what happened with Kano, who, after a lifetime snugly spent with his cherished family, unexpectedly found himself in a shelter, only to ultimately return home.

Follow Your Instincts

This is Kano, affectionately referred to as Skillet by the shelter that took him in. He arrived at DeKalb County Animal Services in Georgia, where he spent five months in search of a forever family.

Despite being incredibly sweet, loving, and easygoing, Skillet still went unadopted.

As the shelter was running out of space, Skillet was relocated to the LifeLine Animal Project adoption center in Atlanta.

This turned out to be the ideal turn in Skillet’s story.

Once at the Atlanta shelter, it wasn’t long before he found a family, or rather, made his way back home.

LifeLine Animal Project celebrated the joyful news on their Facebook page, stating, “Kano, previously known as Skillet to his shelter family, has returned home! He achieved the best outcome by reuniting with his family!”

Kano was ecstatic when he recognized a familiar face at the shelter.

The mother of Kano’s previous owner (his grandmother) discovered his picture on the shelter’s website after following her gut feeling to search for him.

According to her, her son raised Kano in the Blue Ridge Mountains since he was just a puppy. He was the most affectionate and loving dog ever.

“When my son enlisted in the Army, I had to find a new home for Kano due to other family responsibilities. However, not long after, I felt an inner urge to look for him,” the woman shared with LifeLine Animal Project.

Thankfully, she trusted her instincts and it led her right to Kano.

“One night, I began to search online and found a dog that resembled him. I discovered the LifeLine website and browsed through it, and there he was. I sent an email and came in the next evening after work. I’m so grateful for everything,” she concluded.

Kano’s Journey Home

According to Patricia Knowles Hughes, Placement Manager at LifeLine Animal Project, it was a touching moment to witness Kano’s reaction to the woman he instantly recognized as his grandmother.

“The kennel staff noted he did a complete turnaround when she approached and called him Kano. It brought tears of joy to everyone present,” Hughes commented.

Watching Kano’s recognition and the joy in his eyes was profoundly moving.

“I felt in my heart he needed me; it was as if he was calling out to me. I realize that might sound odd. I tell him every day how sorry I am for what happened and that I love him dearly! I still carry some guilt, but I hope he senses and feels my love for him,” the woman expressed, as reported by the Facebook post from LifeLine Animal Project.

Ultimately, everything turned out splendidly.

The unnamed woman was now able to buy a home equipped with a secured backyard where Kano could romp around freely.

“My son is set to be deployed and hasn’t had the chance to see Kano in person, only through FaceTime! But Kano happily responds to him on the phone,” she shared.

At times, it requires navigating a myriad of paths to discover the perfect destination.
