Senior Dog Rescued from Freezing Conditions Overjoyed to Meet His Heroes

Date:

When animal control officers from Monmouth County SPCA discovered a chained dog in Asbury Park, New Jersey, they sprang into action to rescue him from his grim situation. With freezing temperatures worrying them about his well-being, they raced to the location only to find a deeply sad senior dog named Kristoff, tied to a fence and lying on the frozen ground. His tearful brown eyes seemed to plead for help.

Receiving Love And Care

Once they picked Kristoff up and wrapped him in blankets, he sighed with relief, grateful to be rescued from one of the hardest moments in his life. Shortly after, Dr. Nicholette Runko examined him and found that he was too weak to stand. With the help of a technician, they lifted him from the cage for evaluation. After a comforting bath and care, Kristoff showed his sweet nature, nuzzling into his caregivers for affection.

“We gave him a bath, but he was really sweet and he was just nuzzling his head into ours for pets the entire time we were looking at him,” Runko told GeoBeats Animals.

The medical team estimated Kristoff to be between eight to ten years old and believed he wouldn’t have survived much longer in the cold, as he was on the brink of developing pneumonia. While it was unclear if he lived outside his entire life, the team suspected he had spent a significant amount of time outdoors, evident through his stiff joints that hindered his ability to walk. They promptly began treatment with antibiotics and pain relievers, showering him with love and providing nutritious meals. Fortunately, Kristoff responded well and gradually regained the strength to walk.

Hoping To Find A Loving Family

As Kristoff spent more time with his caregivers, they noticed his limited hearing and sight, but that didn’t hinder him from relishing their affection, especially during outdoor activities where he thrived in the warmth of their love. His gentle and affectionate personality quickly endeared him to the shelter staff, who felt sorrow that he was deprived of such care in his previous life. They are committed to ensuring this lovable senior dog experiences the happiest life possible.

“We’re really happy that we were able to rescue him. Everyone here adores him and we all want, even if the rest of his life is short, we want it to be the best short life that he can imagine,” Runko remarked.

Once all necessary examinations are completed and his owner agrees to surrender him, Kristoff will begin his search for a forever home. I eagerly anticipate witnessing him embrace his well-deserved retirement in a loving environment.
