Sometimes, I find myself reflecting on the numerous animals awaiting loving homes in shelters. This pup right here is someone’s dream dog. This sweet kitten would undoubtedly bring joy to someone coming home after work. This puppy could be the perfect companion for a little boy playing alone. Thoughts like these flood my mind, filling me with sadness, especially when I saw a senior pup patiently waiting in a Pennsylvania shelter for her forever family.
No Place For A Pup

In one kennel at the Pennsylvania SPCA (PSPCA), Chessie, an adorable senior pup, is cozied up in her favorite blanket daydreaming about her pawfect life. All she craves is a loving human, a warm bed, and a few tasty treats, but sadly, her previous life was far from what she deserved.
“At 12-years-old, Chessie was abandoned in a house of horrors,” noted the PSPCA in a Facebook post. Thanks to a kind soul, animal law enforcement learned about animals living in appalling conditions. In response, a team of rescuers quickly headed to the scene.
Upon arrival, the rescuers were horrified to discover a home devoid of food and water, cluttered with trash, where many animals were struggling to survive, and Chessie was among them.

“At her age, we wondered what her life must have been like. How long did she wait for help? We are so thankful that a Good Samaritan took the time to speak up. They saved her, and we saved her too,” the PSPCA shared.
One Day At A Time
Upon arriving at the shelter, Chessie was understandably shaken. Fortunately, the compassionate rescuers provided her with the time and space necessary to adjust to her new environment. Within just a few days, she realized she was safe and began to emerge from her shell and reveal her true self.

“When Chessie arrived at our shelter, it understandably took time to build her trust. We are so fortunate we did because she is goofy, playful, and incredibly sweet. She has quickly become a favorite among volunteers and staff,” PSPCA volunteer programs manager Lindsey King told The Dodo. It didn’t take long for her to charm everyone with her adorable personality.
Now that Chessie is feeling more at home, she is on the lookout for a forever home to enjoy her golden years. “Being a senior lady, she seeks a home that enjoys playtime but also values cozy snuggles. Ideally, she would prefer a home without other pets at this time and with families able to handle her playful size,” her caretaker added.
Everyone at the shelter is hopeful that the right person will come forward to sweep Chessie off her paws and lead her to her happily ever after! If that person is you, be sure to check the PSPCA website for adoption details.
