That’s what happened to Lucy, a senior Labrador who spent her days evading traps and humans. She was terrified and deeply heartbroken—until one compassionate soul decided to intervene.
Scared And Heartbroken
One fateful day, Lane Bounds, a resident of Mississippi, exited her gym to find Lucy in the parking lot. Despite calling out gently, Lucy fled in fear. A few days later, Lane spotted her again, this time resting near a bank, but Lucy’s traumatic experiences made her wary of Lane. “Leaving the gym, I noticed an old stray in the parking lot. Days later, I found her sleeping in the bushes at a local bank,” Lane shared in a TikTok post titled “Lucy’s story.”
Determined to help Lucy, Lane took immediate action by posting about her online and setting up humane traps with food nearby, but it was fruitless—Lucy was too clever and nervous. “I made posts looking for her owners with no luck. She outsmarted all traps, but I just knew I had to help her,” Lane expressed in her TikTok post.
Then, Lane had a breakthrough. She decided to bring her own dog, Delta, to the area one afternoon, hoping to catch Lucy’s attention. Fortunately, her plan succeeded! Lucy finally came closer and began to interact with Delta. Over the following days, she allowed Lane to feed her by hand and even jumped into her car.
Eventually, Lucy stood in front of Lane’s car, playing with Delta. In the following days, she became more trusting, allowing Lane to feed her directly and even jumping into her car. The rest, as they say, is history! Lane took Lucy home, and her family welcomed the dog with open arms. During a vet visit, Lane discovered that Lucy had once belonged to a family.
Lucy’s previous family, however, expressed no desire to reunite with her, which only fueled Lane’s resolve. She took Lucy in temporarily, ensuring this gentle Lab had everything she needed for a complete recovery.
Incredible Transformation
Witnessing Lucy’s transformation within such a short time was incredibly fulfilling. She blossomed into a beloved member of the family, cherishing her new mom, dad, Delta, and her human siblings. Lucy thrived on cozy naps, cuddles, and adventures, proving to be the perfect companion. Eventually, it became clear that Lucy was destined to be a permanent member of Lane’s family.
“After over a week of trying to trap and rescue this girl, and now spending two months fostering her with amazing potential offers for her betterment, I just could not imagine Lady Lucy being anywhere else than here with us,” Lane stated on Facebook.
Now, Lucy is happier than ever, and Lane’s family strives to help her heal from her past traumas. In return, Lucy shares her vibrant personality. “Every day we try to give her a life filled with love to heal whatever went wrong in her past, and I’m still not sure how we ever lived without each other. Lu is now a healthy 75+ pounds and by far, the most loyal creature I’ve ever met,” Lucy’s mom added.
