Senior Dog Discovered ‘Scared and Alone’ on Freeway After Owner’s Betrayal Receives a Fresh Start

Date:

It is sadly quite common to encounter abandoned dogs on the streets, left to struggle on their own. Each of these furry companions carries a heartbreaking story that deserves to be told.

The true perpetrator in these tales is often the very person who should be responsible for providing them a loving and happy life – the human.

This was the unfortunate circumstance for a senior dog named Kino, who was discovered by rescuers in Oakland, California, roaming alone without the companionship he once cherished.

Fortunately, compassionate individuals stepped in to ensure that his future shone bright.

A Sad Fate

Kino, an abandoned senior dog, was discovered in Oakland, California, in June 2024. He was brought to Oakland Animal Services, where they promptly began the search for his owner, a quest that eventually yielded results.

Regrettably, they were heartbroken to learn the truth: his previous owner had intentionally discarded him because he was no longer wanted.

Determined not to let this poor dog suffer any longer, the team transferred him to Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, a compassionate organization in San Francisco dedicated to fostering and adopting senior dogs.

Shortly thereafter, Lisa Arden, a dedicated foster caregiver for senior dogs, welcomed Kino into her home. From the moment she laid eyes on him, Lisa recognized that Kino had not had a life filled with comfort and care.

“Unfortunately, we don’t know anything about his previous life or how he ended up on the freeway,” Lisa shared with Newsweek. “He was found with a severe skin issue, indicating he did not have the proper care.”

Despite the hardships Kino faced and the sorrow of his past, Lisa was inspired to ensure that the remainder of his life would be filled with love and joy.

“A Happy, Loyal, And Loving Dog”

Upon arriving at his new foster home, Kino was timid and frightened. Given his traumatic past, his hesitance was entirely understandable as his emotional wounds were still fresh.

However, with the abundant love and encouragement from Lisa and her family, this remarkable dog began to emerge from his shell and reveal his true nature. Lisa found his authentic personality to be incredibly endearing.

“He loves to roam outside and chase squirrels,” she remarked. “But his favorite activity is lounging outside and soaking in the sunset every evening. He’s relaxed and mainly enjoys napping on the couch during the day while I work from home.”

To share Kino’s story with as many people as possible, Lisa created a video on her account, @allthefosterpups, describing him as a “happy, loyal, and loving dog.”

My wonderful senior foster dog, Kino, is available for adoption from Muttville Senior Dog Rescue in San Francisco. He is a terrier mix and estimated to be about 10 years young. He weighs 21 lbs. He is shy at first but once he opens up he is the most loyal and loving boy who deserves the very best home after all he’s been through ♥️ #rescuedog #adoptme #dogs

This heartfelt video gained significant traction on TikTok, quickly achieving its intended purpose.

The Happiest Ending

Just one week after Lisa shared Kino’s story through her video, she excitedly announced that an incredible family had fallen in love with him and decided to adopt him.

To celebrate this milestone, she organized a farewell party for Kino – the final celebration before he embarked on his new journey.

After a restful night following the excitement, the moment everyone had been eagerly anticipating finally arrived. Kino’s new family welcomed him with open arms and without hesitation.

“Kino got adopted by the sweetest family today! He gains two human siblings and a canine sibling. Best of all, he gets to continue watching the sunset every evening in his own backyard. Thank you to the Ross family for offering this deserving boy a second chance.” Lisa shared in her video caption of the video.

Rising from the depths of despair, Kino, aided by the love of kind-hearted individuals, soared toward a new beginning filled with the warmth and happiness that had long eluded him.

Best of luck, dear boy.
