Duncan’s journey began at the tender age of 12 when he was saved by a compassionate organization known as Hope For Paws, located in California.
Little is known about what Duncan endured before his rescue, but the state he was found in was truly heartbreaking. The rescuers were taken aback by his dire condition.
On that life-changing day, Duncan somehow found his way into an auto salvage yard, or perhaps he had been abandoned there, yearning for assistance.
An observant staff member provided him with food and water, quickly notifying Hope For Paws to intervene before animal control could take action.
A Lifetime of Waiting for Rescue

When the rescue team arrived, they were deeply disturbed by Duncan’s appearance, contemplating how he had survived such extreme suffering. He was clearly disoriented, confused, blind, and in significant distress.
The rope tightly secured around his neck indicated that he had once been in the care of someone, but sadly, that person had completely abandoned him.
“I’m so sorry to whoever did this to you, sweet boy,” expressed the empathetic rescuers from Hope For Paws as they rushed him to receive critical medical attention.

In addition to being blind and covered in motor oil, the vet discovered that Duncan was also suffering from dehydration, periodontal disease, skin infections, corneal ulcers, and two mast cell tumors.
Despite the veterinarians’ recommendation of euthanasia, one of the rescuers, Lisa Arturo, insisted on giving Duncan one last opportunity to experience love and joy in his remaining days.

After a thorough cleaning, Duncan emerged as a stunning dog, transferring into a whole new beautiful version of himself.

Subsequently, Duncan was taken to the Frosted Faces Foundation in Ramona, California, which is dedicated to caring for senior dogs in peril.
Finally, Happy Days Ahead

Duncan was welcomed by a loving foster family, Andy and Kelly Smíšek, founders of Frosted Faces Foundation.
“Meeting him was a revelation; I can hardly believe he’s been lonely without a hand to tuck him in at night. We suspect he has some sight because he avoids stepping on his buddies, and his nose is remarkable. We’ll manage his tumors palliatively and have started some supplements to enhance his days. Our mission is to let seniors enjoy the rest of their lives peacefully, and Duncan has plenty of tasty meals and naps ahead — oh, and bones! He adores bones,” stated the foundation in a Facebook post.
For nearly a year, he served as the ambassador in their lobby, welcoming every visitor and soaking up their affection.
