The consequences of Hurricane Helene in the affected regions of the United States are truly devastating.
A multitude of individuals affected are striving to maintain their spirits as they have been compelled to evacuate their homes and belongings due to the storm and subsequent flooding. Yet, amidst these trying moments, animals are also suffering.
A plethora of beloved pets were left utterly frightened by the natural disaster, relying on their devoted humans who did everything in their power to protect them.
Nevertheless, one courageous pup had to face the ordeal alone.
One Courageous Pup
While the Kingsport Fire Department and Murfreesboro Police Department were actively searching through the devastated banks of the Nolichucky River, they stumbled upon a creature in urgent need of assistance.
A small dog had scaled a tall tree, seeking refuge from the menacing waters.
“[She was] stranded around 20 feet up,” the fire department shared in a Facebook update.
The rescuers speculated that this brave pup had been swept away by the strong river currents following the hurricane’s passage. Fortunately, she managed to cling on, thanks to some floating debris, and found a safe perch atop a tall tree.
Yet, as the river receded, the pup found herself ensnared atop the tree with no means of descent!
An Uplifting Rescue Operation
The moment the compassionate humans spotted her, they realized they had to lend a helping hand.
They retrieved their reliable ladder, ascended to reach the pup, and successfully brought her down to safety.
“Once the dog was rescued, who was joyfully taken off the tree, the rescuers were able to provide her with food,” they shared.
Despite her harrowing experience, this lovely girl, now affectionately named Athena, sustained no injuries and was perfectly healthy!
The only task remaining was to discover if she had a loving family waiting for her return!
She was taken to the local shelter where the staff worked tirelessly to reunite Athena with her beloved humans.
The local fire department shared a report from WCYB confirming that the pup was successfully reunited with her family.
This news brought tears of joy to everyone following her story, while the entire community drew strength from it to remain optimistic amid the tragedy.
