Upon meeting Avery, a charming split-toned Pittie, you’d assume she’s experienced a childhood full of love and joy.
Regrettably, that’s not the case.
This tale highlights a tenacious pup who remains optimistic about finding her ideal forever home.
Introducing Avery

Avery, a three-year-old Pit Bull, endured a year filled with abuse and neglect. After being rescued from her dire situation, she spent the next two years at a shelter.
The dedicated people at Marion County Humane Society in Knoxville, Iowa, are committed to making her time there as comfortable as possible, and they’re thrilled to see how grateful Avery is for their kindness.

Avery was surrendered to the Iowa shelter by a distant relative of her previous owners after seeing “numerous marks on her as if she had been struck with a stick.”
The details of her past remain largely unknown, but ultimately, what truly mattered was her escape from danger.

Initially, she felt quite confused at the shelter due to her unfamiliarity with love and nurturing. However, according to the Marion County Humane Society staff, it didn’t take her long to “understand what it means to be loved.”
Her Shelter Journey
As she adjusted to shelter life, Avery still faced challenges.
After a medical examination, the vets discovered a low-grade heart murmur that requires medication and regular monitoring. Although some lifestyle changes are anticipated as she matures, everyone believes they won’t hinder her quality of life.
She also struggles with allergies affecting her paws and skin which require additional treatment, but the staff is hopeful that these allergies will improve once she finds a loving home.

Unfortunately, Avery experienced a traumatic event in the shelter when another Pit Bull attacked her while she was being fed a treat.
“She was unexpectedly attacked by another dog at the shelter. Thankfully, we managed to separate them, but Avery suffered serious injuries and had to be taken to an emergency vet,” explained the humane society in a Facebook post.

Searching for a Forever Home
While she enjoys her current living situation, it’s clear that she would thrive in a loving, permanent home. Although she was once adopted, she was unfortunately returned on the very same day.
Yet, this setback hasn’t dampened her spirits.

Avery remains optimistic about meeting her ideal family who will offer her a life filled with love and happiness.
This affectionate girl enjoys the company of both humans and dogs, although she isn’t particularly fond of cats. Avery loves engaging in tug-of-war, crunching on ice cubes, and enjoying delicious treats. She’s sure to brighten and enhance any home.
