Sadly, there are many situations where someone fails to recognize the charm and potential of a dog, while another person sees them as a beloved treasure.
The pup featured in today’s story experienced just this, as he was released by a breeder to a nearby shelter due to some health complications.
Fortunately, there are remarkable individuals out there who overlooked these challenges and recognized this dog for who he truly is – a delightful puppy deserving of every wonderful thing life has to offer.
A Unique Pup

Grape is a small rescue Bulldog who, after being surrendered to a shelter, was taken in by Roadogs Rescue, a non-profit organization located in Southern California dedicated to rehabilitating and rescuing Bulldogs and puppies with health issues and birth defects.
Upon learning about Grape’s story and his health challenges, Roadogs Rescue welcomed him without any reservations.
“You name it, Grape probably has it. [B]ut Roadogs Rescue believes that dogs like Grape deserve a shot at life. You can’t just abandon an animal because it requires extra care. He brings so much joy to people — he’s an amazing little guy,” shared Grape’s foster mom, Cailee Betrus, with The Dodo.
Despite all his medical complications, this resilient and cheerful pup does not let anything bring him down. Although he may appear a bit different and might not grow as large as typical dogs, Grape continues to live life to the fullest.
“Grape has a HUGE personality. We joke that he’s a toddler in a furry suit. His favorite thing is receiving human affection, and he wants to be held and loved around the clock. He’s quirky and loves to get dressed up,” she expressed.

Understanding that he deserves a loving forever home, Grape’s rescuers devoted themselves to creating one for him. Unfortunately, they faced challenges in finding the right match.
A Visit to Santa
Then, Cailee had the fantastic idea to take him to meet Santa, in hopes of drawing attention to this charming pup.
“I noticed the mall was hosting a pet day with Santa, and I knew Grape had to go. He loves being pushed in his stroller while dressed up and meeting new people. I was sure he would spread joy to many,” she shared.

However, he is dog-friendly! He has ample friends and can socialize, but he doesn’t prefer it all day. Upon arrival at Santa’s South California workshop, Grape was bursting with excitement.
He didn’t just get to meet the iconic Santa Claus, but also Mrs. Claus and all the other visitors who filled the venue with joy and magic. Cailee took the chance to attach a sign to his stroller, informing everyone that he was in search of a home.
Grape had an unforgettable time meeting everyone, reminding them that what truly matters is the spirit within, not appearances.

“People are often surprised when they see a dog like Grape up close. It’s apparent he has some congenital abnormalities because he’s a bit wonky and quite small for his breed. They usually become curious and ask questions, giving us a chance to discuss rescue and adoption. Once they interact with him and experience his gentle nature, he wins them over. Even one girl working at Santa’s workshop cried upon meeting him—his sign and adorable face truly touched her heart,” she noted.
Hoping for the Best
Grape is in search of a loving home where he can be the sole dog and the focus of attention. He also appreciates having someone who spends much of their time indoors and can take him along in his stroller as often as possible.

It would be ideal for his future owner to have some experience with Bulldogs, as this would help them understand his specific needs and preferences. Ultimately, he just desires to be part of a warm and caring family that treats him like the wonderful boy he is.
“In essence, Grape wants to be the center of your world,” concluded Cailee.
