Persistence is crucial in the dog-rescuing process. Regardless of how challenging it becomes or how unfriendly an animal may seem, you must give it your all! With this mindset, Illinois rescuers set out on a remarkable life-saving mission. This time, it was not an ordinary case; it involved a dog whose head had been stuck in a purple bucket for days, making it anything but simple!
He Was Without Food And Water For Days

Alisha Vianello, director of Gateway Pet Guardians in East St. Louis, Illinois, received numerous calls about a stray dog with a bucket on its head. Without hesitation, Vianello and her team sprang into action. However, the dog was not cooperating! It took them days to locate him. “It took a few days to find him, and once he was found, he kept running away,” Vianello shared on Facebook.
The team tried various approaches to befriend the dog, including setting humane traps, but he remained too frightened and skittish to allow anyone near. Realizing he had the bucket stuck on his head for at least three days, they needed a different strategy quickly, as he was at risk of suffocation.
Instead of waiting for him to relax, Dr. Kelsey, a volunteer, opted to use a tranquilizer dart with a mild sedative to incapacitate the dog just long enough to secure him. Within moments, he was leashed, and the bucket was relieved.

The entire team was ecstatic to see the dog safe and sound on his way to the shelter. After a thorough veterinary exam, he received food and affection, and fortunately, other than the bucket issue, his health was in good condition. As for his new name, they affectionately decided on Buckethead! “Of course, we had to name him Buckethead, and he’s safe and recovering in our shelter,” Vianello concluded.

Once Buckethead was in a warm environment and had a full belly, he began to open up. It didn’t take long for him to show his captivating character, revealing himself to be a true cuddle bug! He quickly made friends with everyone at the shelter and soon became the favorite among the staff.
The Sweetest Face

A few days later, the GPG team shared a heartwarming update about Buckethead, complete with an adorable photo that showcased his charming looks. He wasn’t just a cuddly dog; he was quite the fashionable boy! Despite his mysterious past, one thing was clear: Buckethead’s appearance matched his delightful personality perfectly.

He loves people, gets along with other dogs, and is undoubtedly the biggest snuggler around.
“Bucket Head’s true colors have shone through since we rescued him last week and he is the SWEETEST boy! He is super affectionate with everyone he meets, and loves to snuggle,” the Illinois rescue wrote.
Once Buckethead is out of foster care, he will be ready for his forever home. We can’t wait to hear his next life update!
